Coordinating aged brass hardware/faucet?
Comments (8)Thank you for these replies! palimpsest-I was also thinking tone wise that the burnished antique might be best as well. I'm in Portland so am fortunate to see actual fixtures at the store. My concern is there's something that looks a bit more... artificial? modern? to me sometimes in that finish? Was wondering if maybe it would look more authentic to age some unlacquered brass or just go for the ORB? warmfridge, I'm sure it's frustrating trying to find the perfect match and I can already see growing a little collection myself looking for "best!" Thank you for another vote for the burnished antique. I did wonder if ORB would just look black when placed in close proximity throughout the kitchen. judeny, I will check into the hardware options you mentioned, thank you! I'm esp. interested in the fact you still used satin stainless faucets. That might be a very good compromise. Perhaps have the ceiling fixtures and hardware on the kitchen cabinets and adjacent built in cabinetry in the aged brass and stick with stainless faucets to tie in the stainless appliances...? Would you have any photos to share? I was googling aging process of brass (apparently you can make it happen quick) and found some methods-e.g. enclose your (solid brass, unlacquered) item raised up in a sealed container with ammonia at the bottom and presto, instant aging. I'm not sure how you seal that afterward to keep it the tone you want. And won't work for me given the sheer quantity of hardware I need. But in case anyone else just has a piece or two that they're trying to age or "coordinate." Also found link for this product-no experience here obviously-but if it helps someone else. Comments (5)Yes, you probably should know that it won't tarnish to a lovely even dull patina. My range handles had speckles on them where god knows what from the pot hit them. The faucet had splotches. That said, I loved them. But having true living brass in your kitchen is probably harder than dealing with marble etching :-) Funny thing, for all the bellyaching about brass that still goes on - the young woman who bought my house *loved* that brass faucet. It's nothing like the horrid 80's brass, for sure....See MoreAnyone do marble with aged brass?
Comments (21)jgopp- Thanks for the encouragement! I looked up those designers...lovely! lascat- That's too funny! My sister just repainted the exact hardware you mentioned. vslaz- Thanks for the tip! I'm going to look it up. :) Lav- I think you're on to something. It's very scary to pick hardware when you have stainless appliances. I keep questioning myself on that one. Mixing looks great, but it seems so hard to pull off! boxerpups- You always amaze me with your files. Besides all the gorgeous brass and marble, I love the open shelving in number two...and that kitchen with two sinks! What a dream it would be to have two people washing at once! Thanks! Here's one of my inspiration pics. Ya'll might laugh because the brass is a bit hard to spot....See Moreunlaquered brass bathroom faucets
Comments (14)Thanks everyone for your response. This will be for the sinks, I would be happy with some other type of brass finish, but can't find it in the faucet shape/low profile I want. The shower fixtures are "aged" brass, they are not particularly bright, I'm OK with the difference in their appearance, as long as the unlacquered doesn't get too green. Sounds like elbow grease now and again will help. Good point, kats737, about the water, it's well water. . . everdebz, I love that shower, and remember that picture well. The unlacquered brass I saw in a showroom had some splotchy oxidation on it, but was beautiful. It was also a Waterworks shower assembly, lol, it had better be beautiful! The sink faucets are Kallista, the shower assembly is Rejuvanation (WaterMark). The faucet isn't quite this shiny, but the shower piece (the thermocontrol, the rest looks pinkish on my monitor) is pretty representative. I assume that color will be fairly stable as it is lacquered. I haven't bought the faucet yet (wanted to hear feedback), I own the shower assembly....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
