Comments (28)oh my goodness, so many responses! thank you so much everyone for your generosity with your creativity. :) thanks very much tbb for the 3d renderings. i will have to use the ikea tool myself. love the baking station idea too - those metal shelves could actually double as cooling racks! debrak - oops.. duh. obviously i am new at this! thanks. :) deedles - i like everything about your rendering. i think we might go in that direction. you convinced me the pantry fridge is the way to go. technicolor - i'll second lyfia. i used to have about 10 inches next to a stove and it was SO handy. our baking sheets were stored underneath, and narrow open shelves for oils and spices above. rosie - what excellent thoughts, thank you so much. i agree, extra deep on the short side of the L would be great, and then clearance between counter and cabinets wouldn't be too big of an issue (i really prefer a lot of clearance over working surfaces - but then you tradeoff for storage space). i like the idea of the floor to ceiling pantry on the left, but i also wonder if i should put counter/cabs there. would i use it? would it obstruct traffic flow? tough choice. leaning towards pantry. clueless- love your rendering.. and in fact, that window probably needs to be replaced anyway (garden window= leaky/condensation). i think we might do exactly what you recommended! now i just need to decide where the sink and stove go! thanks all :)...See MoreWhat would you do 2.5 extra ft? Comments (8)benjesbride I absolutely LOVE this idea! Is moving a waste line more of an issue than moving the plumbing lines? I've always hated that the toilet is right at the door and would like to add a partition wall between the would be new vanity and toilet location. There is a vent in the rear of the existing shower (from bottom to top of building) that is about 12" wide. It's goes all the way to the end of the foyer closet. That leaves us with about 72" of space along the foyer closet wall to add a toilet and vanity. I think the toilet requires 30" so a 42" double vanity (or two smaller single vanities). We cannot have washer/dryers in this complex (old 1950's plumbing). But I've always complained about no linen closet in the bathroom so that works too. I'd like to move the door to the foyer; however, that would require a split vanity due to the heating pipes in the middle of the room along the wall behind the existing door. No, we are not adding a bedroom. That may be a later addition though, years from now. An neighbor converted the rear of the living/dining area to an office/bedroom (photo below). I've tried to adjust the floor plan to add the vent/shaft in the rear of the shower. It may not be worth the time and expense to open up the foyer wall if we can't get a great layout....See More7x6 Bathroom! How to make the most of it when renovating?
Comments (36)I like option "B", with some possible tweaks (some of which may have already been mentioned by others): 1. Recess a medicine cabinet above the sink. I did this three years ago and absolutely love the medicine cabinet we ended up with, Kohler, with mirror both inside and out, plus an adjustable magnifying mirror. If I had to renovate a future bathroom, I'd pick this same cabinet again in a heartbeat. Kohler Mirrored Medicine Cabinet 2. It looks like you may end up with several inches of space in the upper left hand corner between the wall and the end of the tub. A. See if it is enough for a narrow storage space - maybe something can fit in there like a 6" pullout, which can be great for storing a variety of personal hygiene items - shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, etc. Look at some kitchen cabinets or rev-a-shalf items for possible fits. Here's an example: Using Narrow spaces Another option would be to use that space to stack rolled-up towels and similar linens. B. Another option would be to use that space for storage from the inside of the tub, as in a deeply recessed niche for the usual assortment of bathing products. 3. Consider putting in partially recessed shelving or cabinetry above the radiator for additional storage. Depending on your decor and budget, you can be pretty creative with something like this wall system, and it give you the option to easily adjust it as your needs change in the future: Kerf modular adjustable wall system 4. Don't forget to consider storage above the door frame, and behind the door itself. You can put a couple of towel racks on the back of the door. And if you have a wall towards the back of the tub, you can add a couple of hooks on the wall partitioning the tub from the narrow storage space, to hang a bathrobe or towel....See MoreHow much does it cost to build a 60 foot long x 7ft tal granite wall?
Comments (22)That is about 9' ceiling height, possibly 8'6" but do not think so. There is no way anyone here can even venture a guess as to the cost of a house based on the little info offered. Even if you had 100% drawings of the entire house it is still next to impossible for anyone to venture anything other than a complete wild a** guess....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
