Help with porch railing color on front elevation of yellow brick house
Comments (22)Trying to maintain the simple lines of the existing structure. Remove gable and use same roof material everywhere. New roof extends to existing ridge. Columns smaller. Remove additions around garage door. I'd ask for a drawing showing no shutters under the porch, and correctly sized shutters shown too. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/residential-architecture-101-shutters/...See MoreHelp with exterior colors for yellow brick house with red rock
Comments (10)Have you ever considered spray painting the red stone along the bottom? There are techniques now that allow that. Companies such as Spary-Net (there are also other such companies) that can do that if you don't want to do it yourself (inquire about how to do it and what products to use). Taking that into consoderation, I show a greige for the stone which will be an even colour once spray painted but it will have a nice texture. I've suggested SW Functional Grey for the 2 doors, garage door, and trim paired with SW Pure White. You can look at the suggestion for ciment walkway paint. I show a new black railing, new front door black sconce, and if possible, install 2 black sconces on each side of the garage door for more detail....See MoreCan paint help tie clashing tile and counter together?
Comments (28)Thanks, all! I appreciate the confirmation. I abandoned the idea of painting the tile and have come around to the combination. It doesn't not work. :) I've spent the last two weeks absolutely obsessing over color. Someone on here suggested BM Steam, which I think is almost perfect, but I need something slightly darker. Am contemplating doing a different shade on the ceiling and on the far wall. Has anyone here used Farrow and Ball? Any opinions on whether it's worth the extra money? We'd probably use a regular (less expensive) primer. I know it sounds crazy to spend that much time/money obsessing over the color of my walls, but when we first moved in I painted our walls BM Classic Gray but 30% lighter on a whim and have hated it every day for five years. It's this anemic blah color that just drains the surroundings. I want something really beautiful. Anyway, thanks do much for the feedback!...See Moreexterior help, paint brick? garage doors?j
Comments (8)For me the blue garage doors are a non-starter no matter what color scheme you go with. Don't bother painting them if they're old and should be replaced. Look at the garage doors in the picture below. Ones with windows look so much better. The roof in the second picture (I'm assuming this is your mock-up) is too dark. Very dark roofs absorb heat and just aren't practical. While I am not usually a fan of painting brick, because it's in your entryway it contributes to the entry porch looking dark and unwelcoming, so I don't think whitewashing or painting it would be a bad idea. Be sure you (if you're DIY) use a product appropriate for brick such as Romabio. I am not enthused about the idea of white with brown. White with black is the Modern Farmhouse look, but the style of your house is not MF. You also have white windows which you don't mention as being something you're thinking of changing. The picture below features a light to medium gray with a darker gray roof and white trim which is a nice classic look. If you don't like gray this scheme still works with almost any color of this saturation. If you do end up buying new garage doors it's easy to get them factory-finished in white. You can finish with a contrasting front door in many different colors, depending on what you like - blue, red, green, yellow. I just wouldn't use black since the front door is tucked away in the porch....See Moregwynblanton
