I have pink brick. Help me pick a trim color
I don’t want to paint my beautiful pink brick 🤢, but I need to paint trim in hopes to calm the pink down. Any suggestions for trim color, door color and deck color. Was thinking of doing the same dark color for decking and front door. Also thought about painting the trim The color of the front door and then painting door darker? Thoughts? I don’t know. I’m kinda stuck on this pink brick

Comments (17)Even in my cold zone, I'm not sure I'd describe Madame Isaac Periere as exactly "mannerly". She often gets pruned to the ground here and yet by mid-summer she's off trying to visit neighboring roses on their supports and needing a firm scolding from me. She's also not a repeat bloomer for me, though that might have something to do with pruning to the ground every year. The "real" Reine des Violettes is the same hot pink, fragrant, and reportedly thornless and a rebloomer. I say the last two with a caution, as the Not RdV is sold some places and it's a similar bloom but thorny and a once-bloomer. I know that Burlington sells the real one and there have been other confirmations of real RdV. My real RdV is too young to judge, but I think she'd also be unlikely to be very mannerly a climber in a warm zone like yours - the Not RdV can get pretty rambunctious in my zone. In my zone, Laguna is a pretty reliable hot pink climber, but no telling how mannerly it would be in your zone. If you want to shake things up a bit color-wise, you could go with a climber in white with hot pink picotee edges like Harlekin or Antique 89. Comments (13)You have a hip roof, not flat at all, and enough shows of the roof so that the color will need to coordinate with the trim and garage door. Keep the exterior simple. Your trim can blend into the roof or, if you prefer, it can be lighter or darker to accentuate the trim placement along the roof line. The garage door should not be accented at all, but blend into the house siding. The front door can be your accent color so the focal point will be on your front door and not the garage door. I see a number of post like this asking paint?trim colors on houses that look to me to be newer construction and therefore a vinyl or aluminum siding rather than wood...Is that the case is this wood? 4 years agoOh and yes. My decking is 100% pink. it does make the brick look worse. The brick has a lot of pink tones, with tans/Beige. The mortar is a cool gray though. That was what i tried color matching to get a paint idea.
I have one question for your pros. I Had almost settled on the trim being the front door color. Then I thought that’s would be too dark for a home all in the same color . I will attach a photo of the front of the house. Is the general rule that the trim should be lighter and doors and accent be darker?

4 years agoTraditionally that was often the way, but often a more contemporary take is to utilise the same colour and vary the sheen. It picks out architectural details tonally rather than through colour,,,
Was that a colour match to Sherwin Williams 7031 Mega Greige? I think it’s lovely. At 80° it‘s a near neutral in the Yellow Hue Family. You can plot it in the Colour Strategist wheel using its Hue Angle.

4 years agoAnd, I don’t want to make your head explode,,,but, there is a way to tie your front door colour and trim, even more closely to the brick. There is a tiny device ($55) which connects to an app on your phone. It actually measures the colour of the brick. it’s as quick as taking a photo.
With a surface as varied as yours I would measure about 5 different bricks. get the average Hue angle to plot ot on the colour wheel. That makes it very easy to find paint colours to harmonise with it from the same Hue Family.
Once you have that, you can find lighter/darker/warmer/cooler/more grey/ more colourful colours to work closely with ithe brick. They will relate as they belong to the same Hue Family.

4 years agoMonitors and devices all render colour differently, making it so hard to tell. I bet the Behr store would be able to tell you straight away, should you need more of it. It may not be SW colour, but I cannot find Behr Marquee as a colour on their site.
