Ideas for a more modern exterior
My husband and I would like the exterior of our typical Florida build to have a more modern look. We especially don't like the entrance 'tower'. We'd welcome suggestions for exterior paint colors and metal roofing.

Comments (16)I realize thats all correct - but unfortunately we will be doing all this in phases as having 1 kid in college, and 2 more in high school allows. Our first priority is the inside, upstairs. I've mocked up a basic floor plan. We want to turn the master and bedroom 2 into one large suite, and make the bathroom much larger, as it's tiny. The kitchen has to be gutted, and the laundry is going away as there is another downstairs. (Downstairs also has a bedroom and full bath, along with a game room type deal. We would like to keep 2 bedrooms plus the master upstairs, so we thought about splitting the great room in half (the guy has a screen an projector in there currently. So - anyway, feel free to rework the floor plan as you see fit. basically the only thing off limits is the stairs. Big master suite and bath, open kitchen to living room for entertaining......educate! Comments (5)Thank you for your suggestions Patricia. There is a circular driveway that is hard to see from the picture we posted so I'm not sure how a walkway would work as it would have to cut across the driveway. We currently have asbestos shingles and have painted them 3 times over the last 20 years. I think they kind of make the house feel dated. The small windows are from our master bedroom redo 20 years ago. They were actually very modern looking when we put them in. what front door? No one can see the front door. You have some serious pruning to address. If you want modern, I'd start w/the yard and then address the home. the Portico, columns and window pop-outs would need something different. Then you could consider a more modern garage door.
a metal roof would be great. you have 30k? lol This would make in impact. notice the garage doors, the front door, but look at landscaping. That and exterior paint will give you the biggest change
ignore landscape on this one, look at house colors and how they addressed the window trim and portico area. (and house colors)
just by trimming back the growth and getting a new paint job, remove the pop outs and new garage door, would make a big diff
this is extreme, but look at landscaping, tile roof, and colors. (In fact, I like this roof better for your house than a metal one. when it comes time for a re-roof, look at the Mediterranean style tiles)

PRO4 years agoTrim up the tree for starters. You could turn the house into a farmhouse style by painting it gray with white trim or white with white trim. Take the inserts out of the garage windows. They don't fit the house.

you don't need to cut it down, but you are allowed to prune it. check w/the city.
