Thanks Gardener123. I feel I need to clarify to all of the contributors that I in no way believe I will get an architect level home with my current plan. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the profession, and understand it isn't possible. My spouse and I are the types who will take the scenic route if it involves seeing a famous house. I bought the "Not so big" house book years ago, have the Robert Stern big book on my shelf, seriously considered one of the Time Life houses last go round, and oogle over mid-century designs here on Houzz. That is how I came to build what is my current house that was designed by one of the prominent architects in my state who's work I admired. I admit to being a design groupie. However, sometimes you just gotta take one for the team. The neighborhood I need to be in (long story but involves opposite direction commutes etc.) requires at least 3100 square ft., has wonderful resells, and is about 1 mile to the beach. Not only do I not want the high design house build experience again; but I simply cannot afford to with that amount of square footage. I have lived in 7 or 8 houses as an adult, and in the big scheme of things it will be just fine. Of course I will certainly have the elevation drawn up for the plans before committing and make sure it makes me smile. I respect everyones opinion and thank them for their contribution. If this project indeed is a go, I will report back what we went with. I think given the time you guys have taken with me that is due. Hopefully folks will at least be kind or be silent, ;) Cheers!

Decorate for the house you actually have, not the fantasy house that you don’t have. Notice I didn’t say “Design”. Design for this was a year ago, and didn’t involve anything Tudor. Design is Form. The bones. Your Form is set, and the basic Form is not Tudor. It does have a lot of nice Modern simplicity going for it. Simplicity that would be best served by a single cladding material, however that might be achieved. And a redo of the copper roof to achieve a more modern and simple direction. It’s ornateness is a jarring element against the rather more severeness of the body. Severity in this case is a good style direction. Bringing on late in the game decoration that isn’t at all part of the design form will look even more unnatural and overblown. Like Mario Buatta set loose in Phillip Johnson’s Glass House. yes, absolutely. I went w/Eagle roofing (got the cement tiles) and on the specs it was already rated for higher temps. my roofing guy then told me about he gel underlayment. I think it's from Boral. It's like a double sided sticky thing w/a spongey middle. absorbs the heat and then reflects it back up through the tile or something. I dunno. what I do know is my home seems cooler than it was w/the old 30 year old roof tiles! And for what I paid for this roof, it better be cooler! they look light gray, but are actually a dark charcoal/black! since you're doing asphalt, you prob want to check w/the CRRC (cool roof rating council) and see which shingles are best.
