When would Prairie trillium show up if it was just planted last year?

I have 2 long established clumps originally brought from my Mom’s garden over 15 years ago. Those came up about 4 days ago, and are about 3” high now.

I bought at least 5 big pots full from my garden club sale last spring: where members divide plants from their own gardens. They were all full and healthy when planted, and went dormant at the normal time.

But there is no sign of them yet. Would it be normal for them to emerge later since they were just planted last year?

They should have been up at the same time as if they were planted 15 years ago if they were properly (depth and all) planted. Four days isn't much variance and could simply be due to being in a cooler spot. After 3 weeks, worry some.
Given that, I planted some commercially grown white trilliums last fall and nary a sigh. I'm disappointed, but sometimes it happens. I do have a couple of other trilliums species previously planted in the beds. It is possible that you'll see them (and me too) next spring.

I had not thought about shade. The older trilliums are in an area that gets more sun. I was really careful about depth but you never know if they were at the right height in the pot when the donors potted them. Though they all looked GREAT for a long time in the pots; as it took me a considerable time to get all my goodies planted.

I too bought white trilliums last fall. It was my second time planting them. One of those new ones is up, and has been up over a week. ONE. They were marked, so I am sure it is one of the new ones. No sign of the white ones I planted about 3 years ago. I know where they were, but nothing yet.

I have a similar problem with my zucchini and cucumbers. My zucchini have gotten white spots on the leaves and some of them had died. I kept getting the fruit and as a new gardener, I didn't worry about it. After a week or two I noticed that most of the branches were dying and when I lifted some, the stem broke just above the ground. It was rotted through. All three of my plants have died and I removed them all from the garden. We have had a wet summer and I may have over watered them, though my soil drains pretty well. Next, my neighbor's cucumbers (which are separated from my garden by a link fence) have all withered and died. I am now noticing spots on my cucumber leaves, some have even become holes, and the vines are beginning to wither. Is there anything I can do to prevent further damage or what can I do to prevent this problem next year? Should I spray milk on them?

Mary, native plants in a particular area are those that were growing naturally in the area before humans introduced plants from distant places outside the country. Many exotics (plants from some other country) have established themselves and are mistaken for natives. Examples are the orange daylily called 'ditch lilies' by some, and Japanese honeysuckle. There are many lists online of plants that have escaped cultivation and now considered invasives in some areas. I'm embarrassed to admit I've forgotten which zone 7 state you live in, so I'm attaching a link that has links to Native Plant societies in all states. Funny, the part of Georgia in which I live is so different to the part nearer Atlanta that the GA Native Plant Society has given us to North Florida. My suggestion would be that you contact Atlantic county's Cooperative Extension. If they do not have an extension there, then check out Monmouth County's Extension. There are Master Gardeners who volunteer on Garden Helplines in each of the counties. You can find out their hours, and most likely, with all the info you seem to be wanting, you could go in and get the information. The Extensions are through Rutgers Cooperative Extension. I only have experience with trilliums.... They grow well around here. There were a few already here when we bought this property in 1999 but we're added to them since. What has worked for us is to plant them dormant in mid summer, plant them in areas with lots of leaf litter - under trees, and never water or disturb them while they are dormant! There are lots of squirrels here and, as far as I can tell, they've never bothered them. The white trilliums are more vigorous for us than red ones - white ones are the provincial flower of Ontario so that might be a sign that they are particularly suited here. They are now spreading by both offsets and seedlings. Some pictures....: Cole in the nearby 'trillium wood' that is my reference for what I'd like to have here! White trilliums near the shed in our garden: A closer view from 2015 where you can see seedlings getting big enough to start to bloom: (Note the plentiful oak leaves in those pictures! The trilliums seem to like those conditions....) Red trilliums don't seem as happy here and are spreading much slower: On the issue of squirrels and tulips.... Here the squirrels seem inclined to ADD tulips to our garden! Several years after we started gardening here, a clump of orange tulips appeared under the oak tree in the back yard. We didn't plant them and the tulips looked suspiciously like ones in a neighbour's yard down the street! :-) So we assume the squirrels planted them..... Aside from deadheading the tulips once the flowers fade, I do nothing to them - they keep returning and the clump gets bigger as the years pass. The oldest picture I can find on this computer is 2010 but I think they first appeared before that. 2010: 2015 (apologies for the poor picture quality!) Some salmony-pink tulips appeared in the front garden 2-3 years ago that I was sure we didn't plant and, looking around, I saw the same ones in a garden across the street! So squirrels might dig up the occasional bulb, but they are probably gifting it to a neighbour :-)

Well on the redeeming side, I planted trillium luteum some five years ago from sketchy ebay sellers. They were icky and mushy (foliage) when I got them in early spring, they didn't produce any further growth that year (though they were planted early enough to do so, probably January?). The next year some foliage, but even now I'm finding ones I stuck here and there that are finally big enough to be noticed and producing a flower (found one new one this week). So we can have hope for a year or two I suppose ;)
I'd love to add T sulcatum and flexipes to my mix, but the prices and availability are daunting, especially when I'm not sure that my overly wet areas would suit them. It rains too much here ;(

Another example of the patience required of gardeners!

From that order of 3 years ago I also got T. luteum, as an afterthought to the order of the white ones plus dutchman's breeches, maybe to get a % discount or something.

Got 5: 2 have come up consistently. I am not a big fan of yellow, but I do love those marbled leaves.

Yeah, I'd be happy if the leaves lasted year round :) forget the blooms.

Have you grown the newer hybrid hellebores (not orientalis) that have the fabulous marbled leaves? I planted some this winter (Dec)..love them.
