Comments (6)I'm using Savage garden here: according to the book, "fluffy dabs of cottony tufts" are a sign of mealybugs. I have absolutely no experience here, but I've heard reccomendations of "Ortho Systemic Insect Killer" as a good pesticide, particularly in wettable powder. It might just be a fungus, I don't know, does it look like a fungus or some insect material? Either way, i'd treat it with a fungicide or insecticide. watch the bical like a hawk, red spots can mean spider mite, and that's bad news. Give it a thorough inspection after misting. If you can see any webbing on the leaves, treat with an insecticide as fast as you can. If not, keep watching it, I was almost sure I had spider mite on my aristolochioides, but it's fine now, so hopefully yours is too. As far as I know, leaves turning brown aren't a sign of any pest, just stress. How are your conditions? I can't see why Ampullaria would be in stress, it's such a hardy plant, which leads me to believe it may still be in stress from shipping. Sorry I don't have too much experience in pests, I've only heard them described, so I'm not sure....See MoreShould I splurge or save??
Comments (16)I spent 150.00 on my Moen Ashville brushed nickel shower set. It looks beautiful and has a lifetime guarantee. Now it is just your standard shower. It really doesn't have all the neat features many of the more expensive systems do. When I look at each of the elements of my bathroom remodel I weigh the cost of each in terms of how much enjoyment I get. I looked at some cool shower systems. Since we had a 25 year old shower head, an upgrade of a current standard shower head would be a huge step. If you currently have a standard, you may have to spend more to get the feeling of upgrading. It all comes down to what is important to you. If you have to buy a metal you don't like to get the features you want in your price range, then you have to decide what is important, or go ahead and spend the money to get the combo of both. This is something none of us can decide for you. The shower is a matter of quality of life. My new shower makes a huge difference in my life. Make sure you are going to be happy. Comments (3)Everything needs to be new & the ductwork new & done right. There is NO advantage buying high SEER if everything is not done correctly & matched. A quality installation & setup of the equipment is the most important factor in achieving a rated SEER. Florida varies from 2000 to 2800 hours of run time per year, therefore get everything done right. First, do all you can to reduce the heat-gain & then have a manual J heat-gain calc done. Then, a manual S for sizing equipment, then a manual D for doing the Duct System. DISCLAIMER: I assume NO responsibility for how anyone uses the information I provide in posts or on my websites. Comments (33)Cyn, not sure what you mean by "the second pull". I bailed on the Ashley Norton pulls for the cabinets. Only getting the Nortons for the Sub Zero refrigerator. The "Crescent" pull, from Top Knobs's "Nouveau II" collection and the rectangle knob from their "Mercer" collection will be going on the cabinet doors and drawers now. Fortunately, a friend is a major home builder in this area, so I was able to get a discount via his company, on all of it. Still, bailing on the Ashley Norton for the cabinet hardware saved me @ $1200. That stuff is gorgeous, but and it's worth the extra expense, IMO, if one has the money. But humble little me, dog sitter extraordinaire...nope :-(. Ty, OP. I'm my own GC! Lol. Easy enough. I'm not changing anything structurally; same footprint. Sub Zero will cause one side of the kitchen to be extended by three inches. Lucky there is room to do that! Not replacing the stove, micro, or dishwasher at this time. Only replacing the floor, cabs, sink, and counters and fridge, and I can't believe what THAT is costing! Yikes. Thank goodness for tiny kitchens!...See Morepartim
