Delicatus - to splurge or not to splurge, that is the question
Comments (42)I'm just reading this post a couple months later, but I am so glad you got your Delicatus! Is it in yet? Would love to see pictures because we are right where you were in January.... I keep being "drawn" to Delicatus (which is only one of the many names it seems to be called!) and I think DH is now agrees that it is so much nicer than the Level 1 stones everyone else has. We will have white cabinets, and I like the way Delicatus looks with them. We haven't found the right stone (or price!) yet, but at this point, I'm more than ready to go over-budget to get a countertop I can be excited about (as opposed to spending less for a granite I'm "ho-hum" about.) Sure hope you are happy with your decision and look forward to seeing your photos when yours is in!...See MoreWolf 48 inch dual fuel range- should I splurge?
Comments (24)I really like the Wolf range but never even looked at ranges at all before this week because of price/oven issue. However, that was before I found this deal which put it in my upper price range. So I'm trying to research the range and look at it realistically vs getting swayed just by the price. If I didn't get the range, I would be buying the Kenmore double convection oven with Wolf 5 burner gas cooktop. Not sure if Wolf range ovens would be better or not. I do LOVE the cooktop part of the range and the "wow" factor however just concerned with oven heights. However, I would have the steam oven at perfect level above the warming drawer so that may offset the lower ovens on range. I live in southern TN. Not that I want this to influence my decision, but houses in my neighborhood (range from 500k-3 Million) do have majority high end appliances. So even though we don't plan on selling , I believe the Wolf range would fit the house better... However, for me personally, I would be happy with both scenarios. Thanks for all the help/input!!...See MoreSplurge - Which Pull Should I Get?
Comments (33)Cyn, not sure what you mean by "the second pull". I bailed on the Ashley Norton pulls for the cabinets. Only getting the Nortons for the Sub Zero refrigerator. The "Crescent" pull, from Top Knobs's "Nouveau II" collection and the rectangle knob from their "Mercer" collection will be going on the cabinet doors and drawers now. Fortunately, a friend is a major home builder in this area, so I was able to get a discount via his company, on all of it. Still, bailing on the Ashley Norton for the cabinet hardware saved me @ $1200. That stuff is gorgeous, but and it's worth the extra expense, IMO, if one has the money. But humble little me, dog sitter extraordinaire...nope :-(. Ty, OP. I'm my own GC! Lol. Easy enough. I'm not changing anything structurally; same footprint. Sub Zero will cause one side of the kitchen to be extended by three inches. Lucky there is room to do that! Not replacing the stove, micro, or dishwasher at this time. Only replacing the floor, cabs, sink, and counters and fridge, and I can't believe what THAT is costing! Yikes. Thank goodness for tiny kitchens!...See MoreHome Renovation: where to save and where to splurge
Comments (31)"re: kitchen backsplash. Is this more difficult to install than other tile, e.g. floor tile or bathroom wall tile? " When I posted my advice earlier about the backsplash, I had forgotten you were also installing floor tile and bathroom tile. So no, a kitchen backsplash is not more difficult to install than those. What I meant by my earlier comments was that the guy on a GC's crew who might be assigned to install your backsplash when the GC is doing the rest of the kitchen, may not have that much skill besides basic. You will get a better installation if you hire a tile guy separately yourself. Someone whose entire job is installing tile day in and day out for years. As I mentioned, we have seen some lousy kitchen backsplash installations on this forum when the homeowner just had the GC do it. Best to remove it specifically from the Scope of Work and find someone yourself to do it. As mentioned earlier, tile shops (high quality ones) will often be able to refer you, and also look at Angie's List for your area....See MoreBongo
