Hi there. Your uba tuba is a black and taupe, so pretty timeless. The two things really dating your space are the backsplash and the cover to your vent hood. They will be a little less noticeable if you paint the cabinets the same color. So you’re going to be looking at a wall of beige.

OR, you can replace the vent hood cover with stainless steel, remove the backsplash, and paint those cabinets almost any color you want.

Take some time to google images of kitchens that use uba tuba and study some of the looks you like before moving forward. Meanwhile, here is uba tuba with grey or beige cabinets.

That absolutely works. As far as choosing colors, you begin with a guess, bring home some swatches, and go from there. Based on your images, here are my guesses. You’ll know if they’re correct when you see them in your space, in your light.

In your inspiration image the walls are a bit darker than the cabinets. Your space is so dark, that I would go one shade lighter on the walls. So SW 9109 Natural Linen on the walls, an SW9110 Malabar on the cabinets. Your backsplash has a gradient of color, some of it pink. Absolutely avoid if you can, choosing a color that is notably pink or yellow (although these are considered “yellow” their RGB values are very similar, so they are true neutrals). Keep to a true neutral beige. I’d also take a look at the next color in the fan deck, SE 9111 Antler Velvet.

And speaking of light, you might want to work on the lighting in your space. There are lighting experts galore here who can help with that.
