Dents on newly refinished hardwood floor
Comments (4)If the dent merely pushed, but did not break, the surface of the finish, there is no need to repair. In the unlikely event that it DID break the surface (a mighty dent!), the integrity of the finish against moisture has been breached, and should be repaired. Unlike an oil finish, a polyurethane finish will not "spot" repair. You need to abrade the entire board, then recoat the entire board in order to maintain a consistent finish look. The newly coated board will have a slightly different sheen, until the finish cures completely and "settles in" with the surrounding boards....See MoreNewly refinished hardwood floor look waxy/some bumps? Comments (2)Im a little confused by 3 attempts? The floor wont look "right" after the first coat of poly. Most pros will do a sealer or stain followed by 2-3 coats of urethane. So what do you mean 3 attempts? Did he sand abd restain 3 different times? That is what satin looks like. Give the color and the amount of light it can give it the waxy look For a 100 yr old floor the color looks consistent in your pixs which is good. As far as the bumps in the finish. It doesnt look bad but im only going off the pics you posted. I dont want to sut here and tear apart your flooring guy. But your floor looks decent for 100 yrs old....See MoreHelp with cleaning newly refinished hardwoods that look dull
Comments (3)How often does your housecleaner mop the floors with the bona? if she does it more than once a month shes doing it too much. It could be that your floor guy went with a semi gloss. but glossy floors tend to lose its shiny appeal fast, especially with the regular cleaning, active family, etc... I would have someone come in and buff n coat the floors with a high gloss and then lay off the amount of bona cleaner if more than once a month, and then gauge how long it takes to lose that shiny appeal you like. If you really like that shiny look then it may require more buff n coats to keep that look as opposed to a satin look...See MoreHelp!! need to decide the border of newly finished hardwood floor
Comments (4)Just keep going with the natural finish. Having slightly darker trim (in the same tones) should be fine. You have enough of the deeper coloured wood to allow the trim to stay darker...it is a way to tie things together. If you wish to change out the trim, you will need to look at changing out ALL the wood tones in the home...ouch! The trim+wood cabinets will allow each one to remain as-is without looking out of place. In design, the INSTANT you 'duplicate' something (colour, pattern, material, shape, etc) you create a 'design element'. Which is what will happen if you leave the darker trim alone. It will duplicate the darker colours of the wood cabinetry throughout the house = Tah Dah! Design Element! Congratulations....See MoreRockin' Fine Finish
