I've had the same experience, though I only had one bloom and that was it for the entire season. I ended up buying a second one and so far no blooms on that one either, no buds for spring either yet. I got my SR from Jackson Perkins. It would be interesting hear others experience with this rose. I did find the thread below regarding this rose.

Summer Romance doesn’t seem to like Texas summers. Mine blooms only once in spring, I keep it outside an exposed window where her main purpose is to guard against would-be thieves, as she is big and thorny. I got it from Chamblees for one dollar. They were told to get rid of all their inventory of it by Kordes due to poor performance in the South.

Wow!! Interesting, BenT. I purchased S.R. because it was reported to be disease resistant and if I recall correctly, part of Kordes "Sunbelt" Series. S.R. did not have heat related issues last year, however, it is in open shade during the hottest part of the day during the Summer. Hopefully, this positioning will not negatively impact the number of blooms reported to be less than stellar in some gardens.

Gardening in a non-desert environment really is like starting all over again in many respects:( I will see how it goes with this crazy looking bush...

I think it was part of the Parfuma Series. Odd how it seemed to do so well for Cori Anne in her dry oven heat.

I got both roses after seeing how well they did for Cori Ann, I have the same growing conditions as Cori Ann. In the afternoon tho it gets a bit windy in my yard. This spring I've moved both roses to a new location. I hope it likes the new location. I will share photos should they ever bloom. I also have an Ascot that's never bloomed the leaves look great tho hehehe.

Mine took forever to settle in and start blooming. I didn't prune much last year and the bush grew long and scraggly. I pruned it really hard and now they are looking much fuller and has lots of buds and blooms. Something - I think thrips - ruined most of the first wave but I still have some to enjoy. The scent is amazing. SR is part of he Parfuma collection. It seems to looooove the heat.

I'll prune SR hard again after this bloom cycle.

I don't recall the bloom cycles being too far apart but I'll watch more closely from now on.

Yes, Parfuma Collection… disease resistant and fragrance motivated my purchase… Confusing it with Savannah...

My SR was in partial shade last year in raised bed and it bloomed only once but in abundance. This year it is third year and now in full sun in same location and showing a lot of new growth already. Here is one photo from last year..

My 3rd year Summer Romance roses are in afternoon sun only (approx. 12mn till 6pm) location in my hot/humid zone 8 garden and have been one of my most reliable and floriferous roses. All of them have performed equally well in terms of disease resistance, bloom frequency, bloom form, fragrance and foliage quality. Although their bush form was sort of awkward in their first year, they quickly became well rounded balanced bush, with some purposeful hard pruning. In my personal opinion, it is are one of the best Kordes creations in the recent years, together with Savanna, First Crush, Florentina, Honeymoon and etc.

Did anyone try hard pruning after first spring flush ?

SR is a good bloomer in NE Florida. It is a huge gangly plant with very stiff canes & thorny stems. Its about 8ft at least and has been severely neglected this year. It needs no support at all but SHOULD have support and get trained around something early so it blooms on laterals instead of at the top lol. It gets a little afternoon shade from a "dwarf"(15ft lol) mulberry tree here.
