Guy de Maupassant or Summer Romance?
Comments (39)Thank you again, for those details. I can't wait for next Spring! I guess it's too late to pinch this season, but I'll be on it in March. I wish I knew what I was doing...I don't even know what half these roses are meant to look like fully grown, much less how encourage it. OT, regarding First Crush...she's a sad specimen of a plant, but her new growth and root system are vigorous. And she was $5!!! My question concerns her growth habit. I really need a very pale pink rose next to Dark Desire, but in the same long beds with New Dawn, Munstead Wood and Summer Romance. I was thinking of Earth Angel, but since I have the FC, I could use it instead. What do you think.I prefer bushy and not hugely tall. There's a 4'-5' space allotted for it, but smaller is OK, too. (I don't mind shifting things in the Spring, but welcome any tips for keeping the rootball intact. It's so much work transplanting.) We're having extended gentle rain so I'm glad I slogged through the mud yesterday getting the last two roses planted so I didn't have to overwinter them in pots. (Don't worry; the soil wasn't too wet.) Noseometer, sorry for the total hijack....See MoreSummer Romance, Plum Perfect first blooms
Comments (6)Thank you! It may be thrip damage now, but I do know all the rain must have played a role too. Most of my Belinda's Dream blooms were not attractive at all, but did improve by the end of their bloom cycle, same way with Pope John Paul II and Souvenir de la Malmaison. I'm sure things will improve. Judy, sorry about your JB problem, hope they're not too bad, they should know better than to bother your beautiful roses!...See MoreWondering about Summer Romance
Comments (122)Summer Romance spotted at Home Depot in the Seattle area for $12.98 in 1.5 gallon pots, nice sized, probably own root. I planted Summer Romance last fall as a young plant from Roses Unlimited. This spring the plant has grown nicely and is starting to bloom in my Pacific Northwest garden. The scent is incredible. The blooms are beautiful. The bush is really healthy and beautiful. Love this rose....See MoreWhat do you think of SUMMER ROMANCE now?
Comments (13)Thank you everyone for your input. I wish there were more experiences like vaporvac’s, and maybe there will be. When I planted mine in 2017, I planted it in a large pot, same care and location as Crazy Love and Plum Perfect, also Kordes roses and all three on multiflora. SR grew a lot, one pale pink decent bloom, and later on a few small yucky blooms. Both CL and PP bloomed beautifully and looked healthy. I recall later in the season the foliage on SR looking sickly. In 2018 I put all three in the ground, and I do think Plum Perfect is adjusting to its new environment, it did bloom some and is doing okay, Crazy Love did great and while Summer Romance looked promising for awhile, it didn’t make it. I would give any rose at least three seasons, but when it dies that’s not possible! I should have planted it in the ground to start with. My first year experience with Poseidon wouldn’t have made me think it would be the vigorous grower that it is now, it was pretty sad looking its first season, and gave me one bloom late in the season!...See Moreneedmorerose_va_zone8
