I Just Realized Something

We haven't had a telemarketing/scammer/robo call for three days. We usually receive several per day. Odd how that coincided with people being ordered to shelter in place/stay home, etc.

Whatever the reason, I'm definitely enjoying the peace and quiet.

I wish I could say that. But I did think of something else weird. How come we never hear anything about the coronavirus in India???

Last year was definitely not a good gardening year for me. My mother died six weeks after my father died (and it was quick. She went in the hospital, got diagnosed and died all in a weeks time). My father, we had known since October 07, and then he died in February 08 (which was pretty quick, but at least we had more time than with my mom). They both died a good 20 years before their parents ever did, which was also unexpected, considering they had better health care and better lives than their parents ever did. So, no, I don't usually wait that long, and I don't make it a practice :-) There's a few other jugs of things that are left over from last year that I was waiting to thaw out before I tossed them in the garden beds. They're getting dumped very soon. A tri-color sage seedling survived the fall and winter too, so I won't be surprised if these other left-overs wind up germinating when I dumpt them! I'll be sure to get pictures of the Sweet Rocket when it blooms (I'm really liking the leaves on it! Nice :-) Linda

I'm getting very frustrated with these Thai's. I had some seeds I got years ago called Thai Hot Orange. I loved them, small fruit, bright florescent orange, grows upright and the plant is covered in them (extremely ornamental), and they are really flavorful. Well, I wasn't able to collect seeds last year and I purchased some Thai orange. I don't think they are the same thing, the fruit is bigger than the ones I used to have and they aren't even ripe yet. Does anyone know if there is a difference between Thai Orange and Thai Hot Orange? I need to find where I purchased my original seed. Pam

CHIGGERS! The invisible eat and runners that don't really run. A nice big bottle of peroxide, a good scrubbing with soap to make sure they're really gone (microscopic skin lice..the 'welts' are an allergic reaction to their 'saliva')Hubbs has been bringing them home from work like crazy from all the grass growth and rainfall. We've been washing clothes like it's going out of fashion. Leaf cutters. Oh yeah, it's fun for your roses to look like swiss cheese - not. Leaf spot. I have battled all season, screw the organic I'm playing for keeps. I do avoid the insecticides though. Just fungicide, since it's a little more user friendly. I've topped off my season with loosing a tree to Io Moth Caterpillars, which not only strip a tree in a week when you get a large colony, but they STING. Moving eating stinging machines. I tried bacterial worm spray but it was too late. They were headed for my roses. I got out my pruning shears and cut over 100 worms about the size of my index finger in half. I've got the fire ant leprosy look alike feet, which with a barefoot gardeners tan really looks strange. I've discovered stings on your fingers are ooooohhh so much worse than other places, my whole hand swelled up like the michelin man after a sting under my wedding ring. I'm starting to notice the really 'good' ones inspire a somewhat 'arthritic' joint pain under the sting. I've got more grubs than I know what to do with, and have come to take pleasure from putting them on the hot sidewalk in the sun when I find them. When that doesn't work they get finished off with the shovel. Building mounds for plants is making me insane. 6-10" down, ROCK!

Lydia " ", Powdery mildew is strange. In a hot, dry climate with cool nights it is a serious disease of roses. In a humid, temperate climate, powdery mildew is more common in a dry spring and in particular, fall, rarely during the summer. Dry weather with hot days and cool nights brings it out there. It is usually not a major problem in humid climates, nothing like black spot is. The effected leaves cannot be cured, but new growth should come in nice and clean if measures are taken. I suggest spraying with Immunox, first choice, or Bayer Rose and Flower Disease Control, second choice. Follow the label directions. Some folks prefer Immunox for mildew. Also spray off the foliage with plain water every day before 5:00 PM. This alone can cut mildew in its tracks. You are not washing off the mildew, just giving it an inhospitable environment where it cannot thrive. Strangely, moisture is mildew's enemy. The fungus spray I recommended and water spray will kick it to kingdom come. I suggesting you do both. Moses

Before 8 AM this morning, I was told I was receiving my last call to take advantage of lowering my credit card interest rate. I don't pay interest on credit cards and never have, I pay them in full monthly. Not that I bothered to tell that to the early caller, I only hung up.

I realized the same thing today, Dawn. Only 1 call from an unknown or unrecognized #.

Dawn, I was going to post the same thought the other day. There have been actual days when I don't get any calls at all, then like today, only one. It is really unusual.

ritaweeda other than there are people in India that have the virus I have not seen any reports of how bad it is there. I do know that it will be worse than here.

I just checked the Times of India and supposedly only 247 cases and all connected to travel. They are asking private hospitals to prepare for cases.

Iran, another early pocket of infection. We are hearing nothing about them. When these heavily populated countries like India don't have more cases you know they aren't testing.

I haven't had but a few robocalls this week but the # of scam ads showing up on face book page and which repeat every day is growing.
