Not Just For Kids: Cool Chalkboard Walls
I have created this ideabook a while ago but didn't get a chance to apply the idea in my own house yet. Recently, several people have commented on this ideabook, so I decided to edit it and further explore the chalkboard walls option.
Many young children like to draw on walls and some parents like it too...
After seeing these photos, I fell in love with the idea of painting a whole wall with chalkboard paint. From the little research I did online, it seems that chalkboard paint is easy to apply. Implemented right, chalkboard paint can create an elegant and stylish look. I really like the personal touch that the chalkboard wall adds to the overall design of the room.
Apparently, there are quite a few talented architects and interior designers here at Houzz that used large chalkboard elements as part of their designs.
SchappacherWhite Ltd designed a chalkboard wall in a white kitchen. Faiella Design added a chalkboard around a dining room. Coburn Architecture used a big one in a playroom. Birdhouse Interior Design placed a chalkboard vintage door in a bathroom and E. Cobb Architects used a chalkboard wall as part of a modern staircase. They are all very creative and fun and prove that chalkboard walls can add a lot of charm to many spaces around the house.
I have also found that chalkboard paint doesn't necessarily have to be black. There are some vendors who offer a large selection of color chalkboard paint that fit your taste and design needs. For example, Hudson paint has 24 different chalkboard colors to choose from. If any of you used other vendors, please add them in the comments.
Finally, if you are not the DIY type but still want to play with chalkboard, check the Pottery Barn tiles. I think that they look great and you can create great designs with them.

I love the dark chalkboard wall contrasting against the white kitchen.
So Elegant!

Another close look at this dining room: can you read what is written on that board?
What a creative idea it is to apply chalkboard paint to the closet doors!
One lucky child will use this fun surface to develop his/her artistic passion...
How about "today's menu" on that cool dining room chalkboard?
And what do you think about a chalkboard table?
Thanks becky for this great photo!

A cute idea that I found at Pottery Barn: magnetic chalkboard tiles to create an all-purpose family organizer.
