How do I re-attach a large staghorn fern? Help!
Comments (2)I attached a mature shield to the front of a large half basket using a large piece of plastic mesh from a grapefruit or onion bag and a bit of panty hose. I used twist'ems and string to secure the net cradle to the basket. It looked pretty awful but a new shield frond grew over the mesh and I was able to remove the ties and string as soon as the roots grew through to the moss beneath. It is hot and humid here and I would hate to actually pierce anything I didn't have to....See MoreHow do you attach a trellis to vinyl siding?
Comments (3)I have a brick wall that I grow vines on. I did something similar to what Arum mentioned. I bought a few sections of lattice and painted them to match the brick so they wouldn't stand out while there was no growth on them. I think they were about 8' long and 2 or 3' wide. I stood them on the narrow end and buried about a foot underground to give it support and leaned it against the wall. They are covered with annual vines every year and look really pretty. The one thing I would have done differently is that I should have bought synthetic (plastic) lattice instead of wood because the underground part is starting to rot. It's no big deal to replace it, I'm just lazy. lol I've also seen trellises that have stakes built onto them that you can just stick in the soil. They just weren't big enough for what I wanted and the lattice was very inexpensive and easy to put up. Karyn...See MorePlaster walls- old house, how do I attach curtain rods?????
Comments (9)We lived in a 100+ yr old house with plaster walls. We always hung the rods from the wood trim on the Windows. We didn't have a problem hanging pictures or heavy mirrors. We usually just used large picture hangers, the kind with the nail already in them that go in at a slant. If you try to drill a screw straight into the wall I don't think you will get a good solid hold because the screw will go completely through the plaster and wood lath used to hold the plaster on it. You may be hitting a nail in the lath which is why the bit broke.. I would, go to the local hardware store and ask them what to use to hang curtain brackets on a plaster wall. They should be able to help, surely there is a fix for it....See MoreHow to hang backless kitchen cabinets over tile?
Comments (31)To add to what Joseph said, if you have a cabinet more than about 33" wide, you need a 3/4" thick shelf, otherwise the shelf would sag in the middle. Longer shelves typically need a support at the middle. It's usually a shelf peg on the back of the center stile that the doors close to or in the back of the cabinet. Because they've got inset doors, these cabinets have no center stile....See MoreRelated Professionals
