Color balance issues..

Hi!

I was reading more about colors in painting.

My bathroom has these off white tiles, they look very white-ish, but then when you look closer it does not look super super white. So when they painted my walls this very light gray, it came out looking more blueish.

I was reading this can also be the case with golden-ish colors that are in the room. I will be installing pine wood floors and I do'nt know yet what color the staining will be. But I'm currently choosing paint colors for walls and looking at this color here called Reflection (jotun paint). It's a white-gray, very light gray. It's got a bit of a warm undertone and this could be brought out too much in a pinkish way if anything kind of golden colored is paired with it. Or if I choose a more neutral gray like I did in the bathroom (and I might do in bedrooms too), it could once again look blue which I want to avoid. I want the grayish colors to look gray not pink or blue-ish etc.

So what color staining would work on the floors then?

I also read that pine floors already have a yellowish tint to them--is this gonna read yellowish anyway no matter what staining color I do?

Why do you have to pick paint colors now? Can’t you do so once the floors are done? Also, you make no mention of other hard surfaces selections like countertops, tile, etc and soft furnishings. All of those elements need to be taken into the equation in order to select the perfect white. Which is the hardest color to do right btw.

I have to choose paint now cause the contractor Im finishing with has to do it asap. The final coat of paint is when floors are done. Then the will paint the trim of the windows and doors. not sure I understand the logic either but i am in Egypt and it is different here. I did not buy furniture yet btw. Place is empty. But the vision in my head is very light muted grays

i did some looking around at allexperts.com and found this answer to a question about a pbp losing its balance (i will put it in quotes)... "Pigs have narrow ear canals that are easily blocked, and blocked ears can affect balance. Lack of balance can also be caused by neurological problems like stroke or salt poisoning. Antibiotics will not fix any of these problems. Make sure her ears are clean but do NOT squirt liquid into the ears and do NOT allow the vet to flush them with water. Both cleaning techniques can cause the ear canal to plug with water, making things worse and causing deafness. A blood test will help your vet determine if this problem is caused by an infection, and if so, which antibiotic is best." i hope your oinker gets better and hopefully, antibiotics will help if it's a simple ear infection that is causing loss of balance. fyi, if you feel so inclined, you should post some pics of your piggy in the gardenweb pets forum. i do occasionally and the other folks there love seeing them. :)

Because first you said you liked the darker rugs and then brought up the color balance issue. The rug has been discontinued as was the other one I was looking at last week that was an ivory rug. Somehow all of the ivory rugs in their collection give a more contemporary feel to me. Maybe I am confusing myself? Wanting a traditional rug in non-traditional colors? I'm beginning to think I'm in over my head and am lacking some design sense to pull it all together. You are right, it will cover a large area, though is the remaining 2% left undone. I'm so sick of people coming in and asking about my blue tape "rug". Haha! Maybe I'll have blue tape for the next 10-years trying to figure this out. That sage color is the only one that causes me to hesitate--hard to tell if it works or clashes.... Taken as a whole as in your PS version, it does seem to work.

Strange. That doesn't quite look like the 'George Tabor' plants I've seen in the SE US. Maybe something about the soil chemistry causes different shadings. The first picture looks closer. BUT WAIT - update - maybe just a matter of camera color balance. Now that I google them, I see a range of hues, so that is probably a dominant influence. I'm convinced in some petals, there are ultraviolet pigments that are not picked up by normal camera sensors. IRL, 'George Tabor' has a cool, almost electric 'mauviness without really being mauve' quality, that most DIGITAL pictures don't capture. I saw a rhodie at Rarefind years ago that looked oddly similar to GT, though I never nailed down the ID. The plant I bought a couple years later to possibly be a match, will finally now bloom this spring. (That was based on a hunch from Ron Rabideau, the erstwhile manager of Rarefind. They used to have SO many unnamed hybrids there. It was crazy.) So it will bloom unless something happens! Squirrels seem to semi-randomly select one plant to bite buds from each spring! And so I will finally find out if I got it. It is 'Max Roseum' X 'Skipper' (pink form). I also have smaller 'Max Roseum' X 'Skipper'(yellow form) that will bloom in 2-3 years. But they are really more of a cream color.

Driven to insanity by Bosch lower rack balancing issue! Anyone else??

Bosch came out with a wheel kit to take care of this issue. In my experience it only happened of a couple units I was involved with but the wheel kit took care of the issue. If you contact Bosch they will probably just mail you the wheels and you can put them on. It's not hard to do.

What paint manufacturer does your contractor work with? Best to get that manufacturers colors and take them to your site and look at with your other hard finishes.

The color on the sample cards and the names mean nothing when choosing a color. To know what it will actually look like will depend on the color of the vanity, tile, and different times of the day as this will affect the color the most. Your contractor doesn’t need you to pick the color at this point in the process. After the floors and vanity are in you can pick the color, he will order from Sherwin Williams or another brand. I’ve built 5 new homes over the years and this has always been the process.

That being said, if you are building in a new neighborhood where one builder is building multiple homes; DRHorton as one example, this could be the company’s policy.

Enjoy your new home, it’s only paint and can, and most likely will, be changed several times through the years.

Ok. The flooring for my entryway and hallway are already installed (tiles). The bedrooms and living and dining still have not had their wooden flooring installed. Should I paint my entryway and hallway now since the floors are there? Or do I wait also til the wood flooring for the rooms are done too.

Usually all painting is done at the same time and last but really this is all up to you and your contractor. Post photos of your entryway and hall for us to comment any further....
