Just needed some instant color already.
Comments (11)Oh, I know what you mean. I'm simply craving color...inside my home and out. I do have fading hyacinths and full-bloom red tulips on the back porch to cheer me up, but there is still too much brown and gray outside. I've picked up a few plants this weekend. Some purple and white (each) wave petunias were the only things with blooms. It's just still too cold to get what I want. In order to satisfy that crazy color craving I hit the quilt shop, glass shop (I do stained glass) and took a long walk through a botanic garden. Happy projects to come! I LOVE spring!...See MoreFigs already sprouting leaves and figs
Comments (5)Gary, Congratulations! Life doesn't get much better than watching figs come out of their Winter slump. I have some trees which have green buds swelling, but if mine came out now and started to grow I would have to worry about a late freeze. Here's wishing you a bountiful and delicious harvest!!!...See MoreCuttings sprouting leaves, but they fall off?
Comments (3)The best place is typically the opposite wall of a sunny room. Not in direct sunlight. Also, I havent really had the best luck using potting soil. My cutting will rot to easily. 100% vermiculite works better. Also, when I use the vermiculite I typically keep them covered with some air allowed into keep the cuttings from molding....See MoreSome starts just don't make the cut?
Comments (1)It could be two things that come to mind ,..not knowing the answer to these questions: How many lights are on the seedlings? How close to you have the bulbs to the tops of the seedlings? Are the seedlings that are not directly under the lights close to the window? It is possible that they are subjected to draft or cold from the window, which will keep the tops from growing but actually will be promoting root growth. If the plants directly under the lamps are the stronger ones, it could be the reason why the others are behind. The bulbs should be almost touching the tops (it won't hurt them at all if they touch.) You could shroud the whole area in foil or mirrors to reflect the light to the plants farther away. Tom...See Moreecholane
