Do you have a pic of the entrance door area into room?

Put the bed at the center of the wall where that wall sticks out a bit and put one side table next to the bed with a bedside lamp on it and a picture frame ( decor of your liking). This bedside table should go to the side ( where the chest of drawers but next to bed)

Put the chest of drawers to the opposite side on same wall so all facing wall opposite wall.

Put rugs at end of bed and side where you get out of bed.

Use a pull out sofa bed ( use just in case you have a visitor staying over) to separate living space with its back to the bed and put tv on opposite on wall- I can’t see that wall but assuming there is a space there. Place coffee table in front of sofa .

I add some art work on wall behind the bed.

If space add small round table in one of the corners or near windows as light there and a couple of chairs.

Is there any way of hanging curtains from the pipes I see to create a sleeping area and tv area?

Or maybe use a free standing room divider?

Here's what I would recommend for picking a color palette. Plan on a mix of 3 colors. Based on your " if I'm left alone everything will be black" comment, lets say one of them is black. Let's make the second color either gray or greige, because it's easy to find lots and lots of products in those colors. And for the last one, pick a "real" color that you like: blue, orange, yellow, whatever. Be specific: navy blue, royal blue, or baby blue? Boom, you have your color palette. When you go shopping for stuff for your apartment, those are the colors you are going to look for.

You probably don't want equal amounts of all three colors. The 60-30-10 rule says that 60% of your room should be the dominant color, 30% the secondary color, and 10% the accent color. Don't get too hung up on the particulars, but do plan on one color being getting most of the real estate, one being used for accent, and one filling in the middle ground. For example, you could have your sofa and bedding be greige, use black for side and coffee tables, and use royal blue for throw pillows and a table lamp.

Take a field trip to Ikea. Spend at least half a day. They put rooms together in their showroom, with everything (rugs, furniture, lamps, media shelving....), so you have a chance to see what you like. Many are smallish. They also show bed/living room combos. They have many manly rooms that aren't cave-y. Sit down and get a feel for each one!

Ikea stuff is not expensive, and it's very portable for when you need to move.
