What is a better paint color for my front door?

Current door is Sherwin Williams watery. Love the color but here all I see is toothpaste. I might be painting my brick a cream color in future. So, what color will work now and later - a wedge wood blue?

Lots of directions you could go. Charcoal gray, maroon, dark plum, darker teal, really almost any color. Are there certain colors you are drawn to? Is there a color inside the house that you could use on the door to tie the inside and the outside together?

I think a deeper blue, maybe a slate blue, would work now and later. For now, it’ll tone down the warmer tones of the brick.

Wow, all of you are SO helpful! I agree, I can't get on board with a gold. The tones of the stone just do not show up in the photos, lots of yellowy-peachy tones. I was hoping to do something to get away from that. Now I am concerned about doing something darker. Oh dear!! I think I got my husband on board with a purple/wine/eggplant but now have concerns that many of you think it is not light enough. Back to the drawing board??

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! Thank you, all of you!!!! My son borrowed my computer for the evening, so I missed the spectacular unfolding of all of those door colors. I absolutely LOVE looking at the different colors. Each one changes the whole look of the house so much. What a wonderful resource you all are. I am humbled, thank you. At first glance I am loving the plummy-grey brown. It satisfies my urge for a red door, while incorporating the beige of the house and the brown shutters AND the grey roof. Brilliant. Oakleyok, you suggested a wreath. Great minds! I had a lovely spring wreath on the door, but the birds decided they wanted to use it for nesting material. We were treated to a constant scrabbling noise as they tried to remove the twigs from the wreath -- so I had to temporarily take it down. Right now it's hanging on the INSIDE of the door. Thanks again, everyone! I will tell you what we decide, and then post more photos later. -- Maureen

Pool, I thought I’d love the navy, not sure why I don’t! I like it in Deco’s example. Maybe it’s just the mock-up — the lighting, door style, etc. Mock-ups can help somewhat, but of course aren’t exact. You made a lot of good points. Different colors really influence the personality of the house in different ways. My fav is the California Chamois, or something like it. It looks fantastic with the stoop and brings life to the house without being garish. I don’t love every color I posted, but just wanted to show a variety. I think shutters (especially white) would look awful on this house because the windows are different sizes and too close together for them to look right. Kathleen, if you decide on white for the door, you could bring in color with pots. Such a charming house. :) I hope you don’t paint the bricks. They bring personality and character. White brick would stain easily, peel, etc.

I like the color they are now. Is that stained wood? I guess you could paint them a bold salmon color, which would blend well with peaches and cream. Or navy. Is that synthetic green carpet on the entryway? It’s not very attractive, in this picture anyway.

I like deeper richer colors on with brick. A dark blue-green is one that I'd consider. I prefer aqua on stucco or wood houses in warm climates.

If you want to stay with the blue tones then go with something darker particularly if you are going to paint the brick a cream color.

If you keep your brick the way it is, I would switch to red/coral or a warm color for your front door accent.

In any case, no matter which direction you choose for your front door, please remove the shutters from the right window or size them to the size of the window only and not including the panel below the window. Also, do the shutters on the front door close? Or are they decorative only? They look non-functional at the moment (from here). If they are non-functional, consider removing them entirely and painting any framing (if there is framing) behind them the same white you have on the panel under the right window. I think it will help focus the attention to your front door area.

You could paint your front door yellow - it would work with your brown roof, the current brick color or the new cream color depending upon the yellow you choose.

Removing the shutters at the front door will make the biggest improvement. The colors suggested above sound great, what rings your bell?

I think removing all the shutters would be a huge improvement and please do not devalue your house by painting the brick and choose a color for the front door that you love. Add that color into the landscaping and in the a bit larger planter on the stoop.Then look into painting the trim and siding a nice grayed/ green
