Master Bathroom Remodeling

This is our first time remodel our 21 yr old house. We are going to hire a contractor to remodel our master bathroom. He said he would only do whatever I request & won’t give any advice as he is not a designer. I recently purchased a light grey vanity from Houzz (https://www.houzz.com/products/eviva-aberdeen-lugano-84-gray-double-vanity-prvw-vr~143191580 )and would like some advise on picking up tile floor color. From what I have observed brown/honey, dark grey, or white/white marble are most popular floor tile selections for light grey vanity. For wall tile I will use white subway tiles or marble tile (would be ½ tiled wall). Currently our window & door frames are still oak. What color would be more blended better with our current color? If I select dark grey for my floor, should I use a grey mosaic border on the tile wall to bring them together? Please give some advice. Thank you.

Hire a designer. Designing is more than pretty finishes. You have to draw out a floor plan, elevatiins, electrical locations, material choice specifications that meet ANSI and TCNA specifications. Plumbing configurations that meet local regulations and specific use needs. There’s a lot that has to be researched and documented. Its months of DIY work to do it correctly. Or, hire a designer.

For instance, that vanity is designed to be freestanding, with open space on both sides. It isn’t a suitable choice to go between walls in an alcove installation. It will also be a pain to keep the diet, dust, and cat toys, out from underneath.

thanks for your suggestions. We are basically replacing the existing old oak vanity with this grey new vanity. I need advice on floor tile color to go with the light grey vanity. No need to touch electrical/change plumbing.

I was thinking of moving the new shower to where the tub is, moving the sinks/vanity to the wall where the shower is, but then I would have that big area of dead space where the sinks are now. I thought about adding a linen closet in that corner but I dont want a linen closet that big and there would still be dead space.

Given both those changes, an experienced designer would be a good addition to the project. You can, however ask for design help here in a new thread. You must include a diagram of that area of the house that includes the neighboring rooms, has measurements for every wall, window, and door, and shows placement of electrical and plumbing. You will get a lot of ideas and suggestions. Are you keeping the bidet? Will you consider moving the toilet? What is below this bathroom (ie: basement, crawl space, lower floor of multi-storey home)?

This bathroom is in great shape. If you are doing a full remodel then i would suggest looking at the pictures on this site There's everything for everyone. If you are changing a few things then, You could change the toilet. A skirted toilet makes the bathroom look newer and it's easier to clean. Peal and stick glass tile gives a feeling modern style for the walls outside shower. Most modern showers doors are se thru but if that isn't your style that's fine. If you do change the shower door, choosing one to match the modern faucet on the vanity will look more modern. Keep in mind that gold is trending so you could change the faucet to gold instead as well as the handles on the cubby over the toilet. I remodeled my bathroom last year and installed oval sinks. I don't care if the rectangular ones are "in," I don't like them either. In five years they won't be in anymore anyway. I think oval sinks are still being done, it's just that some people use the rectangular ones. I also have an oval tub and I have a transitional gray and white bathroom as well.

Congratulations, you have a nice vanity.

For your bathroom floor tile I would design your bathroom I will use matte black tiles. Because matte black most suitable tiles for this kind of bathroom design.

Not a pro, but I am going to disagree with one. Unless you sweep or vacuum often, don't think about a black floor in a bathroom. It is a place where dead skin cells are quite numerous from donning and doffing clothing. Then there are powders and sprays and toilet paper dust from tearing off sheets. All make for a lot of dust.
