what goes with this?
Comments (9)Oh, I totally agree with Les and then I see you have a similar couch LOL. This is what I posted recently about leather furniture - it's my favorite. I love my leather too. Choose your furniture carefully because the right leather can last a long, long time and still look good. The leather couches in my game room are over 15 years old and look brand new as do the 10 year old ones in the family room. They survived teenagers with pizza parties and spills of soda and greasy food, the dog, our old trio of cats and our new cat family. The only damage we have is some very tiny pin pricks that the new cats made when they were kittens and they climbed onto the couch - you can't see them, I can barely see them but I know they are there. Don't forget to do my Sky's test for family friendly leather or you'll be sorry. Get samples of the leather, put oil, mustard, ketchup and anything else that you can think of that stains and leave it sit overnight to dry. Next day wash off the yucky mess - you don't want to stick this under water, you don't want to get it wet, just wash the top of the leather as if it were a couch - use a little detergent and water on a lightly damp cloth. Then take a fork and try to make holes - if you can make holes too easily it's not the leather for you. Beat this peice of leather up in ways you think similates accidents that can happen in your home. If the leather survives, that's the one you want on your couch because you know it can take normal daily abuse and still look new. Fine, gorgeous soft as silk leather will fail this test unfortunately, but family hardy ones will pass. Sky...See MoreNavy blue leather sofa? and what chairs?
Comments (9)Sandyponder, your blue sofa reassures me that being blue instead of a more standard color is a feature, not a problem. Thanks so much for posting that! The color adds something. my3dogs, your doggies always look so cute. I've admired your cl leather furniture before. I can't find a picture of the rug now. I'll have to post one later. The rug goes great with burgundy colored furniture because it has some in the rug. I haven't tried it with navy and if it has any navy, it's not much. It's pretty neutral rug though. The subtle burgundy piping on the leather couch (which I can't even see in the photos) may be good for matching it to the rug. I think that the blue chair probably would look better in the room simply because the leather recliners would take up a lot of space and they have a heavier look. I wish I could use all the chairs, but I think two chairs would fit best. My hunch is that two identical upholstered gold chairs would be best. But I love leather and I love a deal. And that blue wingback would match. What to do? I don't have the space for everything. I think a blue sofa flanked with one gold chair and one blue chair potentially could look unbalanced because the blues are so much darker than the gold, which reflects light. I'll see all the furniture in person tomorrow. The recliners have got to be big though. I could accommodate the footstool sizewise....See MoreDecorating with antique sofa without looking too traditional?
Comments (26)So the sofa is in storage right now. I went to go look at it again and it is not even close to how dirty the one in my link was. It is completely white just kind of grayish (probably nothing a little cleaning couldnt fix) so I don't THINK the white trim will be a problem. Also, I am not going to do the full on wainscoting and instead just the chair rail and picture framing. Newdawn, that is actually the exact color I wanted. I found that same picture online! However, we decided to just go for a shabby chic look so the color will probably be a light gray (similar to the color in the link below). I will post pictures (when I learn how) when we have the room all together. So far all we have done is take out the old carpeting and popcorn ceiling so it will be a while.. Now I have another problem. We were planning on redoing the kitchen in a contemporary dark brown with stainless steel appliances. We already bought the appliances and i don't think a shabby chic look will go well with that.. will it be really awkward to have a vintage shabby chic living room leading into a contemporary kitchen?? what to do? Thanks for everyones imput!! THis has been incredibly helpful :) Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreHelp me pick a sofa (rolled arm ok?)
Comments (21)The rolled arm seems more consistent with the things you have now, but the squared arm would seem to lend itself more easily to modern additions you say you would like to try. But it has the nailheads and you say you don't like them -- so do you really want to live with them day in and day out? The nailheads up on the top of the arm is a current and trendy detail. I like it on some pieces, but you could wind up feeling it looks dated where the rolled arm will only risk looking worn or faded over time. It's a classic style. As for color, I like grey, but I would like more color in there, so I would favor the navy for either style. I would shy away from the grey for the rolled arm. Can't put my finger on why, but the idea isn't working for me. If you do grey, would you go for a monochromatic look -- all black, white and grey with a few color accents?...See MoreDesign Girl
