Nice chair! Is it a rocker, too? Brown leather was my first thought for the other sofa, as soon as I saw the photo.

I would love to see something in a suede finish, with simple clean lines and block-type legs, perhaps something like this in a warmer color:

I don't have any suggestions. I'm just sitting here thinking how long it would take my cats to destroy that furniture!! I bought a rattan clothes hamper once and in very short order they tore it to pieces. After a while the only thing left was the frame. Now I have a wooden one and they don't touch it.

I think Les' recommendation is a good match. It has the same square lines.

Only thing I can add is to get some pretty floral pillows. For me, rattan screams for flowers. I guess it's that whole tropical thing that it reminds me of when I see rattan or any natural woven furniture.

Les, must be serendipity!! I DO have a sofa in that style!

I am actually kinda in love w/ no. 2. The reason I am thinking of buying leather is because of the kids (easy to clean). Personally I never had leather before and DH's afraid it would be uncomfortable (too cold to the touch). I would love any opinion from a leather owner...

I like no 2. As a leather owner, I can tell you this. My truck in our insulated garage is comfortable to sit on even after very cold nights. My leather couch is always comfortable to sit on unless we have not had the heat on for many, many days and it is sitting next to a very cold window. Other than that, we have had no problems. Not to mention, most of the time in the winter, we have something covering our legs when we sit down.

I prefer #1 because it has 3 cushions instead of 2. It alsp appears the cushions are not attached and can be flipped and moved around.

This is what I posted recently about leather furniture - it's my favorite.

I love my leather too. Choose your furniture carefully because the right leather can last a long, long time and still look good. The leather couches in my game room are over 15 years old and look brand new as do the 10 year old ones in the family room. They survived teenagers with pizza parties and spills of soda and greasy food, the dog, our old trio of cats and our new cat family. The only damage we have is some very tiny pin pricks that the new cats made when they were kittens and they climbed onto the couch - you can't see them, I can barely see them but I know they are there.
Don't forget to do my Sky's test for family friendly leather or you'll be sorry. Get samples of the leather, put oil, mustard, ketchup and anything else that you can think of that stains and leave it sit overnight to dry. Next day wash off the yucky mess - you don't want to stick this under water, you don't want to get it wet, just wash the top of the leather as if it were a couch - use a little detergent and water on a lightly damp cloth. Then take a fork and try to make holes - if you can make holes too easily it's not the leather for you. Beat this peice of leather up in ways you think similates accidents that can happen in your home. If the leather survives, that's the one you want on your couch because you know it can take normal daily abuse and still look new. Fine, gorgeous soft as silk leather will fail this test unfortunately, but family hardy ones will pass.

The first couch looks like the back is low, and personally I hate those skimpy little legs (with wheels, I think) on such a substantial piece. It looks out of balance to me.

The second couch is better, but the arms look skinny in the front view for the size of the couch. Looks very comfy, tho, and I like the richer color of the leather.

We have a leather couch, in our family room which is half below ground so it does stay cooler down there year 'round. I don't sit there very often, but DH and the boys do, and never have found the leather to be too cold. I personally don't like sitting on it - don't like the feel of leather couches - but that is truly just me the oddball. Most people love them. As for wear issues, I would recommend them. But then my kids were older when we got them (middle school and older) and so I didn't ever have kids with pens or crayons near them, or kids standing or jumping on them.

Oh, and we have a dog, but she doesn't contribute to the wear - she hates sitting on leather, too. The only way she will get up on the couch is if there is a blanket for her to sit on. Same way on the leather seats in my dad's car that we inherited. We have to put a small blanket or bath towel on the seat for her to be comfortable. And yes, I hate the leather seats in that, too. Thankfully I don't have to ever drive it, or ride in it often.

Les, I must've been a dog in my past life..cuz I am having a hard time warming up to leather too. All my girlfriends have them in their houses and they all love it. Since this sofa will be the kids' domain I might as well give in to the dark side and buy leather. My dream sofa is anything slipcovered in white or creamy linen (talk a/b high maintenance)but not here and especially not now.
