Secretary cabinet - where do you put it and how do you use it
Comments (9)My mom had hers at the bottom of the steps to the second floor and at the entrance to her kitchen in a hallway. It made a great place to set down your keys when entering the house. Hers had a top to it and she put collectibles in there. In the years since it was moved into a corner of her living room where she could open it up to use it for letter writing. My sister now has it proudly displayed in her living room. A wonderful, usual piece of furniture. In the drawers were the phone books, catalogs etc. Mary...See MoreDo you use grow lights and are they doing well for you?
Comments (4)Those lights do make a difference especially during the winter months. I grow my AV's and Gesneriads under them, my orchids are happy on the window ledge. Rosie...See MoreWhat do you re-use that you think most people do not?
Comments (143)I save all plastic bags and give them to my sister to crochet mats for the homeless. She can use any that's he can cut loops out of including toilet paper ones if you open the ends instead of tearing down the side. I takes 5 or 600 bags to make one mat. she can also use dry cleaning bags, .like I said it would be any cylindrical bags. The mats are 6 ft long and 2 1/2 feet wide and have a carrying handle and loops to hold them together when they carry them. I save bread bags. I use those for all kinds of things. I guess o got that from my DM. I have just started using worn out socks for rags. My DH goes through socks fast. I use single slippers for on my Swiffer. I saved the bottom part of my old litter box and cleaned it up really good and use that for soaking clothes in OXy CLean. I also save twisty ties. I have some of those nut jars too. Mine had fruit in them at the restaurants I cooked at. Here is the big one. I save almost all of the glass jars that I get. I use them for canning. If they have the rubber inside of the lid they work. I like the small ones, so if I want to give something to somebody They don't have to return the jar. I always make pickled beets and give some away. I boil the lids just like I would Kerr or Ball lids and fill the jars and screw them on tight. I had one jar that wouldn't work once because the lid wouldn't tighten. It just kept turning. I just made sure I used that one first. then I threw it away. I also put other things in them...See MoreDo you use fabric softener? Do you use something in place of it? DIY?
Comments (34)I've never used fabric softener or dryer sheets, and I never have static cling - even in the desert, where the humidity is generally around 10-15%. We do not use heat very much and even use A/C sometimes in January. The washer that came with the house in Cathedral City had fabric softener build-up in it, and so I cleaned that out. I do use Borax, and I think it has a nice fragrance, but I only buy scent-free detergent - both for the washing machine and the dishwasher. I also have no clothes that are polyester or nylon, and I mostly have silk and wool dry cleaned, although I have very little that is wool. I do wash some shirts that are a silk blend, however, but most of my shirts are linen or cotton or linen/cotton blend. I think the fiber content has a lot to do with static cling. BTW, do not use Borax with Oxyclean (which I sometimes use instead of Borax) as this combination will turn the water red, although it does make the clothes red....See More- 6 years ago
