Comments (5)JudyDel...it depends on what you store in them and how you want to store those items. Are you OK with stacking your casserole dishes? Or, would you prefer to have them "1 layer" deep? If the former, then I think 2 drawers would work; if the latter, then definitely three... Personally, I think I would prefer three drawers. In my kitchen I have a 27" wide, 3-drawer cabinet where I store my mixing bowls, round casserole dishes, & 9x13 lasagna/casserole pans. They're in the middle drawer. Here's a pic: The top drawer is shallow (I store serving utensils & oven tools like the meat temperature probes & basting syringes). The next two drawers are the same size. The top drawer: The bottom drawer:...See MoreDrawers for pots and pans
Comments (9)What do your sister's shoes look like? No, really. Does she half open a drawer and pull out the pan from the bottom of the stack? Or does she open the drawer fully, and lift the stack to get at the pan she wants? And yourself (your family?) What are her cabinets made of? Will yours be made of the same stuff? Does she have a condition that affects her ability to control the things she's holding? (Arthritis, palsy, nerve damage, limp muscles, too much drink, congenital clumsiness?) It's not anything I've ever heard about. My own pot drawers haven't been in long enough for me to know about them, but the first thing I'd do is figure out what nicks are from "normal" wear and tear, and how much is from lack of care, lack of grace or infirmity. If you can eliminate all of those, then I'd look at the materials and see if it is something about them that makes them more prone to nicks, and see if there were another choice that would hold up better....See MoreDiff. between regular drawer base and pot/pan drawer base?
Comments (3)I had a Kraftmaid pots and pans drawer in my last kitchen and loved it. A two-drawer pots and pans drawer along with full extension glides were at the top of my list in planning my recent kitchen redo. I put an entire set of dishes in the top drawer. The cabinet came with heavy-duty full extension glides. You can order heavy-duty glides on any Kraftmaid drawer or pull-out, so I don't know what the price comparison would be. The drawer sides were also full height, but I don't know if that is different or if the three drawer sides would also be full height. I needed the height of the two drawers to hold what I wanted to put in it. The bottom two drawers of a three drawer cabinet wouldn't have been deep enough....See MoreDrawers, which two or three
Comments (15)Not sure if this will be helpful to you, but does the cabinet line you've chosen offer hidden drawers? If so, you might want to plan with that option in mind. This thread really reminds me of one of the reasons why I love my Ikea cabinets: Continued flexibility. I planned my kitchen for practicality and function but also wanted a streamlined design for our 60s modern house. I like the look of 2 drawers best, which are also the most flexible when used with hidden drawers. That's what I did. Additionally, on some cabinets we used 3 shallow drawers instead of just one top drawer. This doesn't interrupt the continuing horizontal line between the bottom and top drawers anywhere, and makes for a clean uncluttered look. While I wanted that streamlined minimalist kitchen, two tall drawers would have wasted a lot of space. So,inside, wherever practical, we added Ikea's hidden drawers. So above my dish drawer is an inner drawer with all my cutlery. Above my pots and pans drawer I store their lids in an inner drawer. Above my baking pans and casseroles I store their covers. Etc. etc. Works very well indeed. I have to admit, I was a bit worried when planning, about having to open two drawers to get to the cutlery. Would that irritate me, DH? Turns out I didn't need to worry. Just about always, when needing cutlery, we need to get a plate or cup anyway. So, no matter what, I would need to open two drawers....See Moredarbuka
