Can you please help me choose a rug for my foyer?
Comments (31)Yes, it is rough on the feet. My 10 yr old son complained! I don't think I would put one in a room where you might sit or lie on the floor. I've heard that it softens over time. Will be interesting to see if that happens. Right now I almost always have socks on, but once it warms up I will be barefoot most of the time. I am wondering if I will hate it then. Hope not, because I love the way it looks. At first, my powder room door would drag. But, it was not sitting totally flat due to being rolled up during shipping. Now, it's flat and the door is fine. But, I suspect if your door is real low, it might not work....See MorePlease! help with basement TV room
Comments (17)I find monochromatic soothing, but agree that this this can be better. The entire top half of the room is empty and that accentuates the weighed down feel of the sectional. The solidity of the sectional is not enhanced by heavy end tables and the recliner, and the repetition of squares isn't helping. I'd replace the end tables and perhaps not have one at the window wall. In that corner maybe a floor lamp or very tall display or storage piece. For the other end table, consider something with a lighter feel, perhaps round, or glass and metal. There's texture going on but no reflective surfaces to break up a very matte feel (glass or mirror). It's all very flat. Some simple wood or painted shelves on the long wall would draw the eye up. Personally, I don't like to be reminded I'm in a basement and the window does that. I'd likely cover that wall with a long rod and drapery with a geometric pattern, even if it's nearly monochromatic. If you choose black accents or natural wood accents, repeat them at different areas and heights....See MoreHelp choosing rug for 130 year old antique round table
Comments (59)Musclejunkie, the rugs you like so much look wonderful. The glimpses of your home in these two rooms show how pretty its features are.I especially like how the darker rug looks in the office, and Jinx makes such a good point that it is nice to foster cohesion in color/ tone between the two rooms, if possible. Ida ( CONGRATULATIONS on your property acquisition!) , the rooms you showed are gorgeous, not the least of which is your own living room with its stunning rug! However, in each example there is a degree of contrast between the furniture and the carpet. I did want to say that, imo, there is a case to be made for the beautiful carved legs of the dining table getting a bit lost against the very dark rug. Perhaps, that is not so much the case IRL and as I said, it does nevertheless look beautiful. I no longer have the info. on these rugs, but I just wanted to show as an example of very “rich” rugs that would offer more contrast ( even the darker red one). Also, if it were my rooms I would not want to use two round rugs adjacent to each other. I mean it is ok, but I feel it takes away a little bit from the specialness of the round shape when it is more redundant as in two side by side. Of course, that is just a very personal line of thought/ preference. —- Either way, your rooms are going to look beautiful....See MoreBasement Bar Placement and Flooring Transition - Please Help!
Comments (2)I’ll offer yet another alternative..Personally I don’t suggest carpet in a basement - too many opportunities for water, be it a foundstion leak, water heater failure or something else. Do the entire finished space using LVT, then place area rugs in the play area. Should it become necessary the area rugs can be removed. Measurements would be useful. What is the space between the back bar and bar? Ours is 4.5 ft and has been very comfortable. Wish our bar overhang were a bit more but could only provide 10” due to a support post. Here is our layout showing measuements and a video of the space. Good luck. https://youtu.be/3FqMEqaf0-I...See Moreeastautumn
