What color to paint after removing wallpaper
Comments (2)I'd say some sort of taupe or tan, on the reddish side of the spectrum so the dusty rose doesn't stand out too much....See MoreRemove painted over wallpaper from plaster walls
Comments (11)I agree w/prev poster, do a small single room first and see what shape your wall are in. Not worth stripping if you'll have to replace or skim coat anyways. Re stripping, here's what worked for me: Get on of these scrapers... http://ace.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pACE2-960411reg.jpg Get some FAST wallpaper remover (I like better than DIF)... http://www.cornerhardware.com/images/18/18151.jpg Mix the FAST w/hot water in a good heavy duty spray bottle. Mix it a little on the strong side. Let the spray penetrate for a few seconds, then scrape. When you have all the old wallpaper off, you can wash the walls with a mild FAST solution to get all the glue off. Then wash again with something like Dirtex... http://www.cornerhardware.com/images/20/20293.jpg Because of the paint you may have use a paper tiger to score the paint and wallpaper to allow solutions to penetrate... http://www.homeandbeyond.com/dynamic/prod-0074110-prod.jpg Or if it's real bad, maybe a rent a steamer....See MoreWhat color paint for the DR when Wallpaper is removed
Comments (10)Zoe: We have sold homes in several states and sold very quickly. The one thing we do is have every thing in tip top shape and very clean and all walls painted in neutrals. It is so much easier to imagine your own furniture in a house that is neutral. We also remove anything personal such as family pictures and pare down to no more "stuff" than a model home would have, even if you have to put things in storage. One of our homes had a blue room (from a previous owner) that we hadn't repainted in a public area and a master in the same funny blue. We had only been there a year and hadn't repainted, so we just listed as it was. We had numerous showings, but no offers. We also had a horrible realtor, but a great one in the city we were moving to. One day the out-of-town realtor called and had me walk her thru the house verbally as she felt something was wrong inside if we were getting that many showings and no offer. When she heard about the blue rooms, she immediately said get them painted neutral. I was surprised that anyone couldn't visualize the room painted in another color. She said the couples today are both working, don't have the time to paint, don't want to spend the money and many can't visualize the room repainted. Long story short: we repainted in a neutral and sold the house within the week at our asking price. Was it the paint? I can't say for sure, but when I want to move/sell, I'm willing to put in the effort up front and be done with it. I don't like having to get up every morning and make my house look like a model home any longer than necessary. I would paint your DR above and below the chair rail in a neutral. Below could be a darker neutral on the same paint card. I would strip the wallpaper everywhere and paint all rooms in a neutral. I would get rid of the valances, also. Hope it sells quickly!...See MoreWhat color walls would you go with using this birch tree wallpaper?
Comments (32)Hi all - update: I used Cloud 9 by benjamin moore for the walls - it's a gray-based white, which goes with the background of the wallpaper (not yet up). It's very pretty and also goes well with my faux reclaimed wood vinyl flooring. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the input!!...See MoreSammy
