New cat - we have a new cat!
Comments (28)Hoovb, your pal is precious ! Each pet-pal has a way to endear themselves to us, and enter our heart... maybe it's a bird or a gerbil or a 'coon, I was in the pet-food store the other day and a guy came in with a possum riding on his shoulder, she had a harness and leash on and was just adorable, he found her as a baby and raised her and she lives with him, uses a litter-box and eats cat-food... her fur was soft like a kitten, they are almost blind but have extra senses like smell and hearing, etc., and she loved being petted...... so there you go, we all have our weaknesses..... and wouldn't give them up because they sustain us in our times of need...............sally...See MoreCat5e & Cat6 to whole house?
Comments (11)Cat6 is better than Cat5e. I spec'd Cat 6 but then 6 months later actually looked at the cable and realized the electrician put in Cat5e, which is very unfortunate. Cat6 gives you the ability to run network attached storage (NAS) at reasonable speeds. You could (either now or in the future) run drops to storage at 10Gb/s or higher, which would be great for a very fast video archive. For regular video, Cat5e would probably be good. Only Cat 6 is "officially" rated to run at 1 Gb/sec speeds, but Cat 5e can generally run that speed as well. I only run a single port into any room, and if I need more, I attach a small Gigabit switch. I guess you could do it either way. I have a drop in every room in the house where I might ever have a TV. I hadn't thoght about the IP cameras, but that would be a good idea if you're installing those. No need to waste wireless bandwith on that....See Morehelping old cat deal with new cat--what to do??
Comments (9)Leave your older cat be. She will adjust to the new addition in her own time. I am assuming that you have the new cat cordoned off with its own litter and food? Good idea to do so until everyone is at peace with one another. It also gives your other cat a chance to sniff at the gate of the room where the new cat is being kept. Or, if you shut a door to the room, put up a baby gate when you can be around to supervise what's going on. If you haven't kept them separated, your cat may be angry if the new cat is using its box and food. How long have you had the new cat? We had the same situation this summer and it was horrible for 1-2 weeks. After that period of time all was good. My cat would not even let us touch him while he was adjusting to the new addition. I just left him alone until he came to me, which he eventually did. If your cat welcomes your attention, then give it, but if it doesn't don't be concerned. The existing cat has her nose out of joint and will get over it in her own time. Don't reinforce her behavior by extra attention since she may think you are rewarding her for acting out regarding the addition. Have patience and keep your sense of humor. I am always optimistic. Cats seem to work things out - may take a little while. Keep posting on the cats' progress....See MoreAny idea what to do with the cat when we move?
Comments (18)Yes, I have rehomed a number of tame cats that ended up in my last neighborhood, and some less tame that also probably once had homes. Have learned not to rehome any to people who are planning a move though, because some of the cats escaped during the moving process in their new homes and were not found/recaptured successfully. Terrible. In my current neighborhood my duplex neighbor family moved and left their dog and 3 cats behind. It fell to the landlady and me to rehome them, which we did and they are better off now than with their original owners, (who had already abandoned their unspayed female cat - one of the 3 - and neighbors felt sorry for her and were feeding her) but it was a stressful process and took time. Wish people were better educated about how to treat animals and that they have feelings too....See MoreHU-263008917
