Built-in bookcases around a shallow fireplace??
Comments (15)Two and three are pretty much the same thing. I think I just like two better because the fireplace is more aesthetically pleasing to me. As for depth, most library shelves are 9" deep. That's what I've read anyway, I haven't actually measured. :) If you have a lof of big books, you might want a bottom shelf or two to be deeper....See MoreCan I please see your fireplace, with bookcases surrounding it ?
Comments (30)Zipdee, I just had a brilliant idea. Since you already have white bookcases....and they are a little bit away from the current fireplace....what about building a surround to go around that one making it all look like it was done that way in the beginning. If you take a straight on photo showing the fireplace and the bookcases I'll do a virtual for you. Oh and if you have a straight on of the style of surround you like I'd put that one in there for you so you can see if that's what you really want. Can you tell I really don't want you to paint your current fireplace yet? Wish I could make you a new one and take that one. Our home is a Victorian Revival and I'd love a fireplace surround like that....See MoreUpdate: Built-ins around fireplace? Yes or no?
Comments (18)Thank you for the kind comments. This house has many nice architectural features, but this wall just seemed wrong to me - fireplace is too large, left side wall large and useless. There’s two short rows of this exact house on my street (end units are different tho) and I haven’t seen that anyone has done anything to this space, other than painting the fireplace white. The fact that so many do this makes me want to leave mine unpainted. I admit to being oppositional sometimes. I am desperately looking for artwork but cannot find anything large enough! I want somwthing bright and modern. Most galleries here seem to have abstact stuff. Vintage posters are vastly vertical. I’d really love a linocut or woodblock but they are too small. My husband wants to look for a set of 3 Japanese woodblocks but I would prefer one large thing....See MoreBookcase and fireplace ideas and suggestions needed
Comments (6)IMO unless you have lovely things that should be dislayed or lots of books I would not do bookcases at all. Get 2 matching lower type cabinets wall hang the TV above one on an articulating arm if neccessasty then hang a nice piece of art above the other cabinet to balance the TV some nice simple mantel decor and you are done . Minimal eye clutter and a heck of a lot less dusting....See Moreacm
