Can I see your fireplace mantel?
Comments (6)Here's our basement fireplace - just a limestone mantel. Our family room fireplace will be done in stone, but it's not done yet! We looked all over the place for good ideas, basically scrolling through google images and got some good examples. From house...See MoreYour ideas about how to arrange this built-in bookcase, please?
Comments (34)This is probably way too late, but if not....I was flipping the channels the other night (be so glad when the writer's strike is over) and came upon the last few minutes of HGTV's Color Splash, with that David guy. (He's very talented, but can only take so much of him.) The segment was "Dramatic Den Makeover" - (the number for the episode is HCLRS.304 and it will be aired again on January 28 at 8:30 ET. Anyhow, he transformed this space to a gorgeous libary setting. Took prefab bookcases and added crown molding and it was phenomenal! You might find it interesting....See MoreCan I see your built-in bookcase/ent centers?
Comments (13)My husband built new bookcases and cabinets on either side of the fireplace and we got ride of the old entertainment center. All of the sound equipment went into the cabinets and the T.V. was moved downstairs (we hardly ever watch T.V. so we don't miss it in the living room anyway). This week's project is putting up all new crown molding in the living room and dining room - I'll post pictures when we're done with that part. It's shaping up nicely. BEFORE: AFTER:...See MoreCan I please see your 36' wood hood?
Comments (15)Good Morning annab6! Well, yes, our cooktop is 36" and our insert is 33" inches, and you're right, the wood hood itself is 42" wide and 25" deep to accommodate my gew-gaw wishes (the mouldings). I only remembered the 33" insert part! The wood portion of our hood, rather, the lower portion is built out more than is required by the insert so as to, again, accommodate my wishes. The bottom of the wood hood is 30" above the (standard height) countertop. I love it!!! Our upper cabinets are 47.5" high (we've nine foot ceilings) with considerable crown moulding above. Our microwave is 24" wide and it's an over-the-counter model (so there's no shelf underneath it -- it's screwed into the support above). As jayjay wrote, some people get hoods considerably wider than their cooktops: this was something we investigated because my husband really likes to cook, esp. over high-heat, e.g., lots of stir-fry. With the kind, smart and patient owner of the local mom-and-pop shop where we purchased the bulk of our appliances we decided it would be unnecessary and overkill. Ours is a high BTU cooktop but with the 900 cfm vent we just wouldn't need anything wider. And we like the storage we souldn't have if we'd had a wider hood!...See Morejustgotabme
