White Kitchen w/ Danby Marble- help w/ backsplash!
Comments (15)Thank you for the great suggestions. I would love to check out the walker zanger Gramercy park. There are no WZ distributors near us - Madison wi so I'm going to have to travel a ways to find a show room. Ellendi I think your spot on about there not being enough of a contrast between my creamy cabinet color and my danby marble so a basic subway wont wor as it does in Phorbin's beautiful kitchen. I need some type of transition. I know cararra marble is out as it has too much grey and white. I think I really need to introduce the cream shade. I love the glass tile look but I feel as if I'm going for the classic timeless look in my materials so I almost feel a ceramic would fit the bill better. Boy does tile run the gamut in price! I never knew. I also love Bee,s beautiful arabesque tile- not sure of the shade that would be best. I don't really want to introduce any "color" I like the uniformity of whites and creams....See MoreSea Pearl or Danby Marble w/my Soapstone?
Comments (86)lynn2006 - Thank you! The photos really don't do it justice. Such a calm, serene stone with a cottage/coastal look to it. My DH likes it, too; I think it's both masculine & feminine. Yes, the fact that it won't etch is huge. They won't guarantee it won't etch but if it does, the pattern & subtle texture will help to mask it. Marble etching doesn't bother me; more so, my DH. So this stone works for both of us. I love that it is not a polished stone; it looks so different from the other Sea Pearl slabs I was considering primarily because of the matte finish. Fingers crossed the quote doesn't blow the budget! holly-kay & romy - I appreciate your input re your sinks! Now I have that decision to make. :) My DH likes stainless; I like the apron look. Our fabricator said he makes a cost-efficient "faux apron" sink by using a stainless steel undermount sink with an apron front made out of the counter material. He's going to provide photos of previous jobs; says it looks nice. That might be the way to go for us; a nice compromise....See MoreSuper White granite test redux ...and Danby Majestic marble too
Comments (12)I'm wondering about that 'Danby Majestic.' I hadn't heard of that variety of the stone and so went to the website of the folks who quarry Danby. They list these: Olympian White, Mountain White, Appalachian Green, Royal, Eureka Calacatta, Imperial, Montclair Arbescato and Mariposa, and Crystal Stratus. They also have something called Vermont Verde Cavendish, from another quarry. I believe they hold the trademark to 'Danby Marble.' I'm just beginning to explore Danby, so I'd curious to know more about 'Majestic' or if there are in fact other quarry sources of Danby. Given your staining experience -- which from what I understand sounds unusual -- I wonder if someone slapped the name on a different stone. Here is a link that might be useful: Vermont Quarries (Danby Marble)...See MoreBest sealer for Danby marble in the kitchen?
