Burrr Cold, how do I keep my plants warm?
Comments (2)First of all, if you can, put plastic on both the inside and the outside of the frame, so there's an air space in between, or even use bubble wrap. Which direction does it face? If it's more or less south, large containers of water will heat up in the day and give off heat at night. I'm a zone warmer than you are, but I find just a light bulb or two is enough most the time. I've been thinking about trying heat mats; plants won't feel so cold if their roots are warm, I've read. My little greenhouse is basically for storage of tropicals, but I find it stays warm enough that they can look quite good if I take care of them with this routine. My original intent was just dormant storage. It's surprising what just a little protection can do!...See MorePlease review my Warm Modern Kitchen
Comments (38)Food for thought.... I don't like sitting to eat where there is a large cooktop. When you put the cooktop on the island, it is not as functional as an eating place. You need to decide what is more important; eating or cooking. If eating on the island is more important, then I would move the cooktop to where the ref/frig is and the island is freed for eating. I simply don't think your pass through looks good enough in your kitchen. It really looks like a hole cut out on the wall because the house design was not good enough. i am sorry.... Do you really need this? Can you live without? How does it look in the DR? Does it look like a hole on the wall in the DR? These things never look very good, IMHO. Most pass throughs scream out "I was an afterthought because the initial design was so bad..." Sometimes, a well placed door looks way better than a pass through. I am being blunt. But you have not started yet so this is the time. Can you spend a little more money and make it a peninsula or completely open up? Yes, they are expensive but if you are putting in Thermador columns, you have a pretty big budget. The walnut trim around white on Sochi's kitchen is what give that kitchen the pop, the character and style. It is one of the elements that makes it work so well!...See MoreWhite cabinets and grey counters - how to warm up kitchen?
Comments (6)I love 'concrete gray'. The floors will warm things up a lot and I don't think you'll have to worry about the room looking cold. Is your white creamy and warm at all? I think you have some classic material colors planned and can go many ways with backsplash. What is the overall style you're going for? Classic? Contemporary? Whimsical? Organic? What is the style of your cabinets? If you're using a cabinet style that is somewhat classic, I could see adding some color like burgundy subways. You could even do something wilder like painted Mexican tiles....Something modern like glass...or older like brick. Sticking with something the color of your cabinets with a little pizazz added in accents or a liner would be elegant....See Morehow to "warm up" a white kitchen
Comments (32)Thank you so much for all the tips! I especially love the idea of antique brass lighting. I am definitely going to incorporate that . I found a new inspiration picture from the Rejuvenation catalog which I will try to mimic . It has black and antique brass lighting and black shelving with antique brass brackets . White subway tile with dark grout and black hardware. I will add wood type blinds of some kind and I love large end grain cutting boards. Also, the gold ceiling color is interesting! Allison0704: I did post a layout earlier. Some changes have been made since though. I am doing my half bath in black and brass, but it is only partly done . I gel stained my bathroom cabinet black, put a marble top on it and used antique brass hardware. I thought about doing some black cabinets in the kitchen but chickened out as I thought all white would be better for resale ( not that I plan on moving anytime soon. ) This is my inspiration picture for my kitchen from Rejuvenation that I found yesterday: My question is now: should I try to return my polished nickle faucet or will it blend ok? Thanks to everyone - you are all so talented!!...See MoreSaina Behnejad
