Backsplash to warm up white-ish cabs & granite
Comments (48)omg -- I am so embarrassed. I can't believe it's been almost three years. I know it's ridiculous, veevs, but I still have not put in a backsplash! I collected so many sample tiles (all of which are still sitting on my laundry room counter), and then I just got overwhelmed! And then tired. And then bored. And then we moved on to other major house projects (front entry, portico, landscaping, etc.) and other decorating (window treatments, etc.). And then I just became very zen about the whole thing and decided not to stress about it, to enjoy the paint for now, and to just pick out other kitchen things first (eg, got the bamboo shades budge suggested). In fact, it's funny that you're reviving this thread now, as I await delivery of the chandelier that I finally chose for over the island. I'm hoping that getting that up next week will provide a sudden epiphany re the backsplash. I hope to return to that project this fall/winter. Of course, I'm still happy to hear suggestions and welcome any photos! Sorry the thread was such a tease...but there will be a happy ending one day! In the meantime ... enjoy your kitchen and the many delicious meals you will share with your family ... and tell them all just to be zen :)...See MoreNeed help warming up this kitchen
Comments (26)Thank you, friends, for your ideas and lovely compliments. I like the "small band of color" idea. I definitely resonated with the concept of needing something soft, patterned to balance all the hard surfaces in this room. I will probably not bother with runners due to our active dog (lab/boxer cross). But the shades-which-always-stay-up are a good idea! Happyladi, the paint colors are BM 1592 Blue Springs (lighter) and BM 1644 Blue Dusk (darker, breakfast nook). Glad you like 'em! And yes, the window has a window seat but it doesn't show much. I have a couple of plants on it and have a hard time remembering to water them because they're out of sight most of the time. LOL (They are sorta gangly Christmas Cacti and don't look good on the little cabinet off to the right. I tried 'em there.) I wish to heck I knew how to Photoshop -- I would definitely mock up a band of color so I could visualize it. One of these days!...See MoreWhite Kitchen Cabinets, and counter question?
Comments (4)Hi Beth, Ok... Assuming you understand the up-keep issues with a solid white environment... You certainly can incorporate color in other areas of your kitchen, if you find it too cold. Plant life will give it a fresh garden feel, some rosemary in a terracotta pot etc, Red or cobalt accessories for drama etc... Check out Google Images... type in white cabinets with white countertops ... gobs of pictures will pop up - all styles. You will see if it's for you or not. Check out my website...www.ACWkitchens.com, under photo's, there is a white kitchen with a large carrera marble island... check out the wild blue and white wall paper and the painted wall behind the hood... It is quite cool in real life! Just an option on how to bring color in, if you get tired of the "all white" look in the future. That particular kitchen had a Carrera island top, and an antique finished stainless steel top on the main areas (multi-directional finish to disguise scratches giving it an unexpected warm feel - very cool!) Hope this helps! Linda Berg, ACW kitchen & Bath Here is a link that might be useful: ACW Kitchen & Bath...See Moreideas to warm up my kitchen design
Comments (29)I like your choices, love the cabinets. The cabinets are cool-toned, but they are light, so I think it will look nice. I would go for dark on either the floor or the countertops, but not both. I think a light countertop with the darker flooring would look great with the cabinets. I don't think black counters would look as good. It's ok for a space to be cool-toned. You want to avoid it being too cold or sterile. The aged look of the cabinets feels very alive to me, so I don't think you will have a problem with it feeling cold. A richer walls color like the emerald teal color above will help give it some life too. I like My3dogs last image. Doesn't look cold at all to me....See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
