An Idea for warming up soil faster for bell peppers in globalBukt
Comments (12)I suppose it's more difficult for those without the space to grow an actual garden using the ground, but I have found that organic methods work much better where Mother Nature is more in control, and a more inorganic approach works well for the confined spaces of containers where we, the gardeners, are more in control. Even so, we do have more control over which fertilizers we choose, the water we use, the soil, etc... Science tells us that warmer water freezes faster than cold water... and I would not dump hot water on any of my plants. I generally use tepid, room temperature, un-softened water on my container grown plants. I would agree with Tapla... the basics are important to learn... and then comes the more involved knowledge as one gets used to the general ideas of growing in containers. I find that "Container Soils - Water Movement & Retention XVI" is a good place to begin reading... the thread has been bumped to the front page within this forum....See MoreI'm looking for feedback on my kitchen design ideas

Your red could be one of the darker tones if you used a dark barn red that has some black in it. And one of your grays or tans could be the light tone. If everything is the same medium value, it will all look blah no matter what color you use....See MoreHelp me warm up my kitchen?
Comments (35)Oh myyyy, what a gorgeous, crisp yet soothing kitchen! Everything goes together so perfectly! Which of the blues I see are more accurate in the first pic---the blue under the glass-front cab, the blue just to the left of the window or the blue peeking out just above your fridge? With the different lighting in the different areas of your kitchen the colors are all so pretty, serene . Rare to find that color that looks perfect no matter what time of day! Not the minimalist here so I'm with ThreeDgrad about the blue glass only I would naturally gravitate to Cobalt Blue. Maybe one large bowl on the island just to the left of the stool in the second picture. Another Cobalt something or other on the window sill and a third somewhere else in your kitchen where light will hit it and come through the Cobalt. Maybe a piece under the glass front cab where you have the great lighting coming down on the counter. 3 pieces of Cobalt, with light coming through each, placed apart in the kitchen so each piece catches the eye on it's own. Bam! Kitchen done. OK, gotta ask --- I already asked on the Kitchen forum and got 3 great suggestions but I want all the options for searches I can get. Where did you get/what is the brand of the pull-out baskets in your island? I really love the way you've done your island....See MoreBuying home that lacks curb appeal, ideas to warm it up.
Comments (35)Do NOT cut those trees! This house is in Texas! You will need those trees and more to help with the blaring heat. I lived in the Dallas area I know that we cherished every tree that could provide any shade. The utility bills were astronomical. I would make a wide bed around the trees but don't encroach on the area right around the tree. Plant some colorful plants and put in drip irrigation. I would do similar plantings around the front of the house. Adding a sidewalk like the picture would look nice. A hanging lantern over the door. Too much red already with the brick if you change the door go a different direction break up all that red brick. I had a neighbor when I lived in Dallas that did the wrap of the column with rustic wood and stucco and discuss the rustic wood shutters, I was surprised how much it changed the looks in a very good way. Some also use the white sandstone. I will look for a picture....See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
