Why I'm struggling with closet organization
Comments (45)Thought I'd chime in with my closet system, although I admit I like the idea of the rings....In my tiny closet I have blouses, then skirts then dresses. When I rehang a worn item that can be worn again, it not only goes on the very left side of the closet no matter what type of item it is, I use a bright colored flocked hanger, instead of the black flocked ones the clean items are on. (Except skirts on a skirt hanger. But are identified easily as worn as they are in the "used" section.) Admittedly, this is a doubled system, that most would not need but helps me. I originally just used the different colored hangers and put the used blouse in with the blouses, etc., but eventually liked the idea of keeping the worn items out of the clean ones so started just putting them separately, naturally still using the bright hangers. If I forget and hang a worn item in with the clean, or vice versa, the hanger will identify it. When I do laundry, it is easy to locate the clothes that will be washed...(aside from the rest in the hamper!)...See MoreI'm tired of the window having rule over my sofa.
Comments (19)Lilylore, you "read" what I wrote: "Thoughts on off centering."...bravo. "I don't really need to (pick apart) see your room to comment." LOL. "it does have symmetrical elements and a very limited palette" I totally agree with that regarding Casey's room. My home has a 70's vibe...no molding really and I just had a dark brown grasscloth hung from floor to ceiling. The room is long enough to have two seating areas and the windows are centered at both ends (ones a sliding door actually, but centered non the less). Calm...sigh if only...two young boys and lego hell, a dog I should have named Doorbell and a husband who won't leave the kitchen until it's spotless. Calmness I think is EXACTLY why I "feel" better in a more edited space. I say "feel" because I love those rooms with tons of books in china cabinets and more with old broken busts and layers apon layers but I've tried decorating that way and it drives me nuts. And oh yes, the only furniture in the room are two sofa's...no not a matching love seat and sofa...two sofas that most people would never throw together. The one on the wall (or away from the wall) will have to have more symmetry. Oh as for people picking my stuff apart...pfff, no worries I've been down this road but... it was an excellent trip because someone very special on that road told me that I can do instinctively what most people spend money and time for getting a deco degree to try and do...I already knew that. Ok I'm bragging now. As soon as I type the scale in the living room I'll dare show pics. But trust me, I won't be thrilling to many people with my show...its so real most people can't take it. Ok, I'm gonna go try some stuff... Pfff "talking about the room in abstract". Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my....See MoreAnother struggling orange tree I have
Comments (8)Yes, that helps a lot. Now I can see that what I thought might be dead bark is just paint. That's good! Still tough to tell if the foliage is the good fruiting wood,(scion) or the rootstock foliage. It's not Trifoliate rootstock as that has triple leaves, but it could be cuban shaddock, another kind of rootstock. I think only time will tell at this point. Could very well be an orange. Some can tell by crushing a leaf and smelling it, it will often smell like the fruit it is. Cuban shaddock's fruit is a lemon/pumelo cross, so probably smells like lemon. I have one, I'll check later. Orange leaves don't have much of a smell at all, so that could help....See MoreDecor for living room - off center couch
Comments (14)3 sets of bulky recliners for this small room? Sorry, but it's too much. But, if this is what you like and want, then forget about any coffee table or other design elements. just use this room as a media room. Since your sofa is off-set, you could put a side table in the corner with a tall table lamp or a few pendants lights. Pendant lights in the corner would eat up a portion of the blank space. Then consider doing a type of gallery wall or maybe something with shelving to display art. If you did a single canvas picture, it would look weird over the off-set couch, and weird centered on the wall. So, improvise. instead of a side table, you could do a large floor lamp, smaller tables like this in the center. or, gallery wall. if you did the entire wall, the offset sofa wouldn't matter...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
