Help: Family Living Room with Off-Center Chimney
Comments (13)It would be quite easy to add a screen of some type behind the TV to hide electronics and make it look finished in the hallway. Lots of products out there. I think that is a better place for the TV than above the chimney and it might not be even safe above the chimney area. The pipe probably runs from the center of the fireplace up that right side of the build out. I would leave the area above the opening toward the ceiling open, but close the back of the area for the TV off, then you probably need to create a grommet in the top of that shelf to drop down cables and wires for the TV and perhaps some speaker wires? Not sure what you have. If you go to Home Depot or Lowe's you can go to their lumber area and see what panels could be used to close that off with something decorative....See MoreLiving room family room combo (great room) and off center fireplace
Comments (2)There are some truly amazing options out there for hidden TVs. If you were open to any of them, that might make your arrangement easier. being able to place things without having an obvious TV in the room when it isn't in use. We have a TV mounted above a fireplace and it ends up straining your neck to look up that high from a couch. Keep the TV low wherever you end up with it....See MoreDecor for large wall with couch off centered?
Comments (37)I think there are more important issues than what to put on a wall. The couch is huge and takes over the room, and none of the other furniture is working with it. Too much beige. The tired pillows need colorful pillow covers. Toss the “accessories” on the side table and fireplace and the one lonely too-small lamp on the side table. The side table should go and either get a side table to match the coffee table or replace them both. Two floor lamps for reading are needed on either end of the sofa as well as sconces over the fireplace and additional lighting. The TV is set too high to watch. The baby furniture is not a good look but I understand if it is necessary. I would however put the baby seat away unless it is being used. The set of smaller photos on the wall opposite the fireplace does not work as they are too small and do not make an impact lined up along the wall. This room needs some color. If you can do it, what I would do is to either take apart the too-large couch and reconfigure it so that there are two seating areas facing each other on either side of the fireplace, and the TV moved to the wall where you would like to put something, along with bookcases and TV storage that would surround the TV. That is, a large nice-looking storage unit. Then you could have an interesting display above the fireplace, say, a mirror and some photos. Something personal....See MoreDecorating around the fireplace and finishing off the living room
Comments (16)1) your fireplace brick is pretty shallow -- maybe 4-6" deeper than the wall? any cabinetry or console you would put on either side would be 12" or 24" deep, which might look very odd. 2) when you remove a lot of the kitchen wall, where are you putting the couch? or is the whole room being rearranged? 3) agree that art should be lower over couch, and also that it should be narrower than the couch itself. thus, you might want two rows centered on the couch rather than the single wide/high row. 4) we could use a view of the end of the room to the left of the fireplace -- for example, is there anything behind the chair?...See Morealways1stepbehind
