Double poled shower curtain rods?

We are getting close to the end of our bath remodel and I'm looking at shower curtain rods. We are putting in brass to match the other hardware and I haven't found a lot of choices out there, but did find these at Signature. They have a single and double poled shower curtain. I've never seen double poled before and not even sure I understand the logic (to hang towels on), although if you use one pole for liner and one for curtain, it might be nice as far as keeping actual curtain dry. Anyway, does anyone have any comments about these. Also, any guidelines about distance of bottom of curtain from floor (how high to place rod)? Thanks!

It depends on how long your shower curtain is. You can google for standard hanging heights and some other options. I like this article and love the higher height:

I would worry about hanging wet towels on a double rod...too much weight and you'll pull it out of the wall, possibly break your tile.

I had a curved double rod mounted in the wall for 17 years. During those years the rod did come in handy at times for hanging towels as well as laundry. The rod never loosened up or pulled out of the wall.

When I redid my bathroom last spring, I reused my curved double rod but this time it’s mounted in the tile. I’m not worried about it pulling out. In my experience, a bath towel is usually only damp after drying off with it and doesn’t weigh much more than a dry towel.

I couldn't find a double curved one years ago when I remodeled. Instead, I used a crane rod with a curved rod. Usually the liner is behind my decorative curtain; I pulled it out a bit for the photo.

I have double rings and love them. It drove me nuts to have to unclip and then reclip every ring every time I wanted to wash the curtain or change or wash the liner. These are the ones I have. If the shower area is a bit lacking in light, use the double rods. That way you can have just the liner across the area while showering, which will allow in more light. With the double hook method, the two will have to open and close together. To minimize the appearance of cluttered hooks, I use thicker decorative ones for the curtain, and thinner, rod-matching colored ones for the liner. It makes it easier for the mind to register only the decorative hangers.

There is another wqy to add sheers behind your drapes and much less expensive than the 'Add a Rod' idea as well as less cumbersome than the bungee idea, depending on the type of rod you use for the drapes. IF you use a standard type curtain rod, there is a solid 'u' shaped hook you can insert into the bottom fold of the of the rod while inserting a regular cafe type rod into it to hold the sheers. They can be found at big box stores and often at drapery stores. lollll But I can't find it on the Internet drapery ads. Mucho inexpensive, mucho easy, and your sheers will definitely be behind your drapes as far as you want.

Thanks to both of you for your experience. I like the higher rod, although I already have a 72 inch curtain. Is the 2nd pole useful for a liner, or is it better to use the "double hooks"? I wouldn't want that liner to stick to a wet person in the shower! This would be mounted in tile, that is part of why it's such a nail biter!

My setup is a tub/shower combo. I used a curved rod because it gives you a little more elbow room in the shower. I use the inner rod for the liner. The liner does not stick to the person in the shower. If you don’t need the double rod for hanging space, it’s cheaper to bit a single rod. I would think the double looks should work just fine for having a liner on the inside and the curtain on the outside

There is no reason for an installer to so poorly install a shower curtain that it pulls out if you hang on it, let alone if wet towels are hung on it. It should break and bend before coming out of the wall.

You have not mentioned what the bottom of the shower is. If it is a tub, you want to hang the curtain short enough that it does not lay against where the curving starts going toward the bottom of the tub, or it will sit plastered to the tub wall. If you have a shower bottom with a curb, then you want it long enough so the liner sits behind the curb a bit. If you have no curb at all, like I do, you may want it so that the shower curtain just touches or just misses touching the shower floor. Mine just touches my roll-in shower floor.

I had a tension rod for the first few months, as my contractor wanted me to be absolutely sure I was not going to want a glass shower front. The darned thing kept sliding down. Unfortunately, when they went to install the new permanent rod I was not at home and they installed it where the tension rod was, too low. I saw it and said that it was too low and they had to reinstall it. I did not want the curtain bent onto the shower floor They managed to hide the holes under the new position, but I was willing to have color-matched caulk to fill in the holes were they to show. I would have placed it a tad higher, so that it just missed touching the floor, but my builder really wanted to hide those holes. At least, if someone drops the hand-held, it cannot spray across the room.
