Should we paint or stain our ceiling?
Comments (13)I like wood ceiling too and had them in all the rooms of my lakehouse but last summer we decided to paint all the wood and now I LOVE the painted wood. It still reads like wood but sooo cheery and light. We did it as the house is in Maine. I longed for more light in the winter (the few times I go up) but in your case the room is full of light so you could go either way. If your furnishings are going to be similar to the rest of the items you showed then you could go with a stain and add more warmth to the room. Sometimes the eye needs a resting place from the bright sun and that ceiling would be a show stopper if it were stained. I wouldn't go dark with the stain but more of a medium to light shade. Then I'd add some items in the same tone in the room to pull it all together. It's a wonderful sunroom, sigh....See MoreWhat color tile floor should we use in our kitchen?
Comments (29)Thank you all again for your feedback. I think we decided to go with tumbled travertine in a white/beige color for the backsplash instead of the brick. Couple questions: - For a small space would you recommend small brick shaped tiles, brick shape and size tiles, or square tiles? We don't want to do the real thin tiles. -We are thinking about square porcelain floor tiles, placed in a diamond shaped pattern because we understand that will make our small kitchen appear bigger. If we do a square tile backsplash would you place them in a diamond pattern as well to match the floor pattern? -We are thinking of a medium beige color floor...the floors we have are original to the house and have to go! We can't do wood because of the way the kitchen is laid out with the rest of the house where we already have wood. Thanks in advance!...See MoreHELP! What color should we paint our kitchen cabinets to go with floor
Comments (12)paint the uppers only, a white or mushroom....[putty]…..I think the bottom cabinet area will work with the floor then. The layer of wood cabinetry on the walls is very "heavy" , visually.....regardless of what floor exists. A change at eye level[walls] will change things in a big way. And the wood cabinets lower down will actually be good, as an "anchor" for your space. And get some runners/mats. You lack base drawers..at some point a replacement will come into your discussions..... so extra trouble of painting them isn't worth it....See MoreWhat color(s) should we paint the interior of our new home?
Comments (5)Congratulations on your new home - how exciting! I would not paint the walls grey/blue/green due to the orange/yellow wood. Those colors would look nice in your home but may feel a little old-fashioned to you. In my opinion, grey has been overdone and it's time for something fresher. I would paint both the walls and the wood trim the same soft white to give it a more modern feel. The trim is not very substantial so just paint it out altogether. Bring in color with your furniture or art. When you eventually replace the flooring you can think about changing the trim too. Look at Benjamin Moore OC-117 Simply White, or perhaps OC-118 Snowfall White or OC-149 Decorator's White....See Morejonmulcahy
