What color should we stain our hardwood floors?
Comments (4)Maple is known and widely used for it's pretty light and clear color. Not many people choose to stain it. However, if that is something you're really want, it can be done, and as an added bonus to staining the Maple, you can now use an oil poly instead of a water, making it much more durable over the long run. As far as color goes, don't go too Grey, your kitchen is allowed to have it's own color scheme. The Flooring Blog The Couture Floor Company...See Morewhat color should we paint our sunroom?

Comments (8)Please make sure the old floors have enough meat on them (wood above the tongue needs to be 3mm or thicker) to get you through a full sand and refinish. At 70 years old and a bad DIY level finish/repair these floors are very close to their last days. You may want to have the professionals give you their opinion as to how many more sand/refinishes they have on them. If this is their last, I would hate for you to go through all the trouble of matching only to have an entire wood floor that will never see another sand/refinish. And to get them all even/seamless, they have to sand down the new ones to the same thickness as the old...meaning the new one's may have a very short life-span regardless of how old they are. Just something to be aware of. If it were my floor and I this was the last sand/refinish possible, I would throw in some nice tile or some nice vinyl (in a stone or tile look) and leave everything age naturally....without wasting good wood trying to match 'bad' (a floor that only has 20 years left of life)....See MoreWhat color(s) should we paint the interior of our new home?
Comments (5)Congratulations on your new home - how exciting! I would not paint the walls grey/blue/green due to the orange/yellow wood. Those colors would look nice in your home but may feel a little old-fashioned to you. In my opinion, grey has been overdone and it's time for something fresher. I would paint both the walls and the wood trim the same soft white to give it a more modern feel. The trim is not very substantial so just paint it out altogether. Bring in color with your furniture or art. When you eventually replace the flooring you can think about changing the trim too. Look at Benjamin Moore OC-117 Simply White, or perhaps OC-118 Snowfall White or OC-149 Decorator's White....See MoreKarenseb
