I can't imagine a sunroom with a dark ceiling. To me that kind of defeats the whole purpose of calling it a sun room. LOL Personally I would want the cream to allow all of the light to bounce around as it should in a sun room. It will look so pretty with the wall color you are using.

I LOVE tongue & groove cathedral ceilings! My family room has that... in red oak, just poly'd.

Since you are using pine, I would rule out poly and the stains. I personally do not like the look of 'naked' pine (you might!), and pine is very difficult to stain evenly.

That just leaves the paint...

Not sure where you live but a very light blue paint might make it cheerier in the winter.

I like wood ceiling too and had them in all the rooms of my lakehouse but last summer we decided to paint all the wood and now I LOVE the painted wood. It still reads like wood but sooo cheery and light. We did it as the house is in Maine. I longed for more light in the winter (the few times I go up) but in your case the room is full of light so you could go either way. If your furnishings are going to be similar to the rest of the items you showed then you could go with a stain and add more warmth to the room. Sometimes the eye needs a resting place from the bright sun and that ceiling would be a show stopper if it were stained. I wouldn't go dark with the stain but more of a medium to light shade. Then I'd add some items in the same tone in the room to pull it all together. It's a wonderful sunroom, sigh.

I'm with parma and yaya. Having it match the wood flooring will be like icing on the cake. It can still be a sunroom with the stained wood above. It will be unique, pretty and not like everyone else's sunroom. :) The ceiling has a 16th century feel to it. Love it!

Mr. Weedy likes the idea of a lighter stain (and he rarely has decorating opinions), so we bought a couple small cans to try out. If it doesn't stain evenly or look good, we're leaning toward the cream paint.

I think I would do a light stain, for a number of reasons. WIth a light floor and light walls, I don't know that you would want the weight of a dark stain up there. Also, since you are calling it a sunroom, I would want to maintain a light and airy, natural feel in there as much as possible. Finally, I would think the lighter stain on the ceiling would allow the fireplace to be the star.

That said, if you are thinking that you want a more formal feel to this room to go with the rest of the house, then perhaps painting it a pale, pale blue would be better.

Forgot to add if you do paint be sure to use a good stain blocking primer or the knots will not bleed through.

OK, that's two of you that have said very light blue paint. Help me out on the why, given that all the rest of the trim is cream?
