Pls help find an area rug for this sofa/drapes

Hi,

I am looking for a 9x12 or larger rug to sit underneath this sofa. The fabric is for the draperies, which will either be 90 degrees to the sofa or behind it. Looking for something transitional but leaning traditional. The sofa frame is a dark espresso; floor color in the top photo is the more accurate. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

Hi Jean!

What a pretty drapery fabric! I love how it coordinates with the sofa.

I would suggest pulling out the cream, brown, and maybe the taupe colors that are in the leaves and flowers for your rug. Since you have a medium scale floral for the drapes, a large scale geometric rug would be a nice contrast.

I can find some ideas by googling "lattice rug cream and brown" or "geometric rug cream and brown."

You could pull out the green from the drapery fabric, but I'd look at that just being an accent color. And use the darkest of the greens. Otherwise, you'll be in more danger of clashing with the sofa.

Beyond that, I would toss your drapery fabric in the car, take it with you to some rug stores, and have a fun day of shopping!

Someone posted this rug here once and I thought it was so pretty, I saved it. I thought of it seeing your pretty colors.

The only thing is not being able to tell the exact blue/teal tone on a computer monitor.

Thanks for responding. I believe I am more on the contemporary side but then again I could be traditional but I think its more contemporary. But here is the rug I was looking at but it has circles and I think this will clash with the drapes. If I can find something that is elegant that would be fine also but it is a family room! here is the rug: a href="http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n13/ambitiousbeginner/?action=view&current=SilkDrapes.jpg" target="_blank"> I DON'T THINK SO.....looks funny together. The rug is from Nieman Marcus but I am not willing to pay over $2000.00 for it. My budget is $1000.00 or less. I'M A CHEAPIE :-) The rug seems to have all my colors. As soon as I find the disk to upload to my computer then I can post a picture of my family room. Thanks for any suggestions...I am open to all...all of you have such good taste.

the propylene stuff is durable, but it's also very cheap looking. try to see one in person before ordering. they're very thin. Some are better quality than others. if it's under $100 for a 5x8, then you know it's the cheap one! you could go w/a natural jute or sisal type of rug. will give you the texture that Beverly mentioned or try something faded like this one. it won't compete w/the drapes a distressed or over-dyed wool rug. they are pretty durable too. I have a few.

The best way to find a rug is to go to sites like are offered in the suggestions...there are literally thousands of options...personally i love wool rugs as they are thicker and heavier and more durable...the corners dont roll up...they dont smash down when you walk on them and they are so easy to keep clean ...the least expensive ones are tufted but they last forever and work in every area of the home...looking good forever...i prefer the ones that have smaller patterns and more color...especially in the sleek contemporary settings ....you seem to have an eye and taste for color as exhibited in your art...and either contemporary or traditional would work in your space...the search is simplified by typing in your color ...size ...material...type ...this will educate you in what is out there as well...lastly they make small sizes that are very inexpensive that can be ordered to see what the rug will look like in your size...and are easy to use elsewhere in the home so you dont have to return them...
