Can't sleep - I think I may hate my newly finished floors (PICS)
Comments (50)I am in exactly the same place with my red oak floors :( my floors look just as orange as in the pictures... and the variations and wood grain are much more pronounced than I wanted. I have the flooring company coming in on Monday to put down the third coat of poly - do I have any options at this point? Or just a matter of it mattering less once I get more used to the new color...? I had this same level of shock and discomfort with my wall color (had to leave my apartment for the evening just to soothe myself!), but once they sanded the floors - I realized I loved the wall color, just that my old floor finish was clashing with it. Now after staining the floor - I am back to feeling they really clash... and I really wish I had just opted for no stain and a natural finish instead... I’d take that look over what I now have any day. At least - that’s how it feels right now. To the original poster - @lacollar - (or anyone else with a similar experience) - did you eventually get used to (or even fall in love with?! :)) your floors... even though at first it felt like the choice of stain color was a huge mistake? Has anyone tried tinting the final coat to tone down the orange/reds? Does that work? Appreciate any help/advice. Thank you all!...See Morehuge wall decor help
Comments (16)Bigger budget/project needed. I was thinking the hutch needed to go where the blanket rack is, but now that I see the cornered TV, there are bigger fish to fry. Move the hutch flat against the wall left of the double slider. Turn/adjust the table, rug and light fixture (worth a bit of electrical work.) Replace the stair rail with a pony wall pre-wired for TV installation. Sell the double sofa and put the 3-seater opposite the new TV location with blanket rack left of the triple slider. Add a pair of swivel chairs where you have the 3-seat sofa now. Space between them and the dining area shouldn't be an issue. Pony wall will need to be adequate for the size of your TV, but this is the idea, and a chart for appropriate installation....See MoreSchluter choice: metal trim or white PVC Schluter for our tile?
Comments (43)I've been going back and forth on this same topic for the white ceramic subway tile I'll be installing as a backsplash in my kitchen. I'm using a 2"x4" mosaic. The problem is they don't make matching bullnose pieces. I can get them in bigger sizes and try and cut them down with a wet saw, but they're thicker than the mosaic (1/4" vs. 5/16"). I'll have some areas where the edge of the tile is open (i.e. doesn't terminate into a wall or cabinet). For those edges, I really just want a matching 2"x4" bullnose piece with the bullnose on the short edge. In the upper corner, I want a 2"x4" bullnose piece with a bullnose on both the short and long edges. For the top row where it's open, I want 2"x4" bullnose pieces with the bullnose on the long edge. I looked at the Schluter, but I really didn't like it. I'm going for a more rustic look, and I think it has more of a modern look. The solution I finally found was a place down in Cincinnati where you send them pieces of your field tile and they make them into bullnose pieces to your specification with a kiln fired finish. That way everything matches my field tile. It's costing me about $4 per bullnose tile, but it's giving me exactly the look I want. I think they have a minimum order amount of $50....See MoreI hate my new paint color..HELP!
Comments (28)I painted my kitchen 3 times and bought 5 different colors of paint - nuts I know but I learned a lot. Never go with the paint chip. Computer painted rooms won't help either since it's not your room. The color will look different depending on natural light, bulbs being used and the color of the surfaces in the room it reflects off of. It will also look different at different times of the day. If you are up to it, buy paint samples. Get yourself the largest poster board you can find and paint several of them with your choices. Move the boards around the room during different times of day. I tried one light grey color that looked purple in the evening - not a look I wanted. You may want to try different light bulbs. We ended up swapping our ours for 5000K. Warm lighting made our cream cabinets look yellow. I would paint that wood woodwork white in a heart beat....See MoreH B
