Schluter trim for shower niche?
Comments (16)I have another question about the trim. For the hallway bath we have oversized subway tiles (4x10 in) and we want to go with bright white trim. The bullnose (Rondec) might be better than flat (Jolly) here but I can't seem to find the bright white coated aluminum inner corner pieces anywhere for the niche. All I can find is bright white coated PVC corner pieces. So my question is two fold. Would you prefer color coated aluminum over color coated PVC trim for durability? Secondly, what if I do the rest of the trim in color coated aluminum but buy the PVC corner pieces? Would they age differently and look odd in the end?...See MoreSchluter strips versus bullnose tile?
Comments (16)I had never heard of Schluter trim before, but know what it is now that I just had my kitchen backsplash tiled. The tile contractor said he was measuring for tile and bullnose when he came out, but when his guys did the job, they used the Schluter product. In an older, classic Colonial home. Filled with antiques. With subway tile. I am LIVID. They ran out of field tile on Friday afternoon and left for the weekend, and I haven’t yet had a chance to talk to the owner or his wife, who is useless. She actually called to ask if I would schedule them on short notice due to a cancellation and then blew me off without calling when another job ran over. Alarm bells should have gone off, but I’m apparently stupid because stuff like this keeps happening to me. I suspect they used the Schluter either because they forgot to order bulnose (all of 5 feet would have been enough) or because it’s faster to install. Or both. Maybe it’s ok in a modern house or contemporary installation, but it looks terrible in my very traditional kitchen....See MorePencil, schluter or bullnose finish for marble shower?
Comments (22)What is on the display at Floor and Decor may not even look like what is for sale now. What's available at the store could have a ton of variation. The displays are not updated as the stone comes in from different areas. You have to look at what is actually there for purchase. I think I bought the same marble you are looking at in 12x12 for a hall bath. It was super cheap. Over half was not usable because there were orange spots. Rust deposits. I didn't see it anywhere I looked in the store....See MoreSchluter or Pencil Bullnose...dilemma
Comments (16)Since the tiles come with the trim pieces use them. It will help to keep you in the transitional style better. The Schluter white may look off in the finish next to the tiles, or consider using a metal finish from them that matches the plumbing fixtures if you want to go that route....See MoreMittens Cat
