What’s the best floor for a mudroom/ powder room?
Comments (3)Slate is stone. Stone is one of the highest wearing surfaces we have. It should go 200 years. The stone floors in the Vatican have been there for CENTURIES. You should be fine....See MoreConvert powder room to storage room
Comments (9)It depends on how extensively you wish to remove the plumbing. If it's just pulling out the fixtures and capping, you might be fine without a permit, but if it's more than that, I would say you likely will need one. Your licensed plumber should know whether the permit is warranted. I don't know about your HOA ... if it's an attached home, they're more likely to care, as it could affect others, where as detached home HOAs are usually more concerned about changes visible from the exterior, but it's possible that the change in valuation of the home (loss of bathroom) could matter to them. I'd ask to be sure. Price will somewhat depend on your area, but I usually assume $150 for the plumber to walk through the door. If you're doing this DIY, it'll be a whole lot cheaper. Don't forget to include your disposal costs (I assume you're not storing the old toilet.) Getting the plumbing to a site is the expensive part, if everything is there and capped, it's not a huge cost to convert back. It's mostly the cost of the fixtures (and the plumber still costs $150 to walk through the door). Going from powder room to closet is not the common ... usually renovations are going the other way. If you're asking about it being a DIY, replacing a toilet is often DIY, so the removal part would be simple, but make sure you know what you're doing with the capping, or you could end up with a stinky situation....See MoreTiny powder room - make into mudroom?
Comments (14)Here are some pictures of combo powder room and mud room. Not meaning that you'd separate the the toilet, just wanted to show you these bc the wall organization looks good. Was thinking something like this: And I found some pictures of attractive looking peg board types of systems. Maybe something like this will work. You could hang a folding stool and other things on the wall and/or have a shelf with baskets placed high up. The hanging system wouldn't encroach on the toilet clearance or crowd you when you're at the sink. Or if you want more of a shelf type of unit on that wall, maybe something like this placed high up on the wall: If you don't want open storage like that, I think Ikea has some very shallow closed cabinets that you can hang on the wall, maybe putting 2 of them so you utilize most of the wall, but I haven't been to Ikea lately to see what they are offering....See MoreI need suggestions, please!!! Comments (2)Please provide room dimensions, for both the mud room and the powder room. Are any of the windows to be removed? If so, indicate which ones will be kept. Label which room is which; indicate the size of the doors to be installed. Most importantly indicate where the water lines are in the plan. You will get much more help with that info. Thanks....See MoreKarol Haney
