Stunning wallcovering and vanity combos turn up the design volume in these small bathrooms
You may know that a powder room is a great place to experiment with fun design. Wading through all the options, though, isn’t easy. If you can pick an eye-catching wall treatment and vanity, the rest will fall into place. Here are three great-looking powder rooms and their recipes for success.

Designer: Edie Sutter (also the homeowner)
Location: Soddy Daisy, Tennessee
Size: 30.6 square feet (2.8 square meters)
Homeowners’ request: A durable and functional bathroom with lots of interest that could serve as a revolving art gallery.
Special features: Cast iron wall-hung double trough-style sink. Shiplap walls. Large round tray mirror. Butterfly wallpaper on the ceiling. “It was in memory of my mother — butterflies were her favorite,” designer and homeowner Edie Sutter says. “I wanted to use paper, but on the ceiling so I would be less likely to grow tired of it.”
Designer secret: “I’m a huge fan of wallpaper and color on ceilings,” Sutter says. “It seems less of a commitment and leaves your walls clean for art or architectural finds. Also, for a powder room I try and have any elements that make it more comfortable — lots of spare supplies, reading glasses, etc.”
“Uh-oh” moment: “Mostly it was the placement of the bathroom,” Sutter says. “Historically, powder rooms are placed off the entry hall, which is quite a walk from the regular path of the homeowner. I decided to move this one to the hall by the kitchen, making it convenient. Also, the sink weighed a ton, so there had to be lots of extra reinforcement built into the walls to accommodate it.”
Wallpaper: FlutterBy, Graham & Brown; sink: K3200, Kohler (browse more wall-mounted sinks); faucet: Delta; wall paint: Dover White, Sherwin-Williams; tray mirror: Burlap & Board (browse more round mirrors); builder: Kinston Southern Properties
