Wide width shoes, feel so good!

It was time for some new shoes, so I got some Skechers in a wide width. I guess that my feet along with the rest of me are getting a bit pudgy. My shoe size has gone up half a size over the past 3 years or so and the half size larger was finally also feeling a little binding so this time I did not go up in size but tried the wide width instead and these shoes are so comfortable!

I've had to buy wide width for a couple of years now. They make such a difference. Currently my favourite are Dr. Scholl's memory foam. I wear them to my exercise classes.

I also bought a 1/2 size bigger (from a size 7 to 7 1/2) and agree, my feet loved me for it. Sometimes I wonder if we just get use to sticking with the same old ... surely it can't be a vanity thing can it 😉.

I have a NEW favorite gardening shoe I'd like to share. I've travelled enough to know that the most important item to take is an extraordinarily comfortable and supportive pair of walking shoes. It's really one of my ultimate tests for shoes, and the good ones really stand out. I had purchased some slip-on Keen shoes (similar to their "Paradise Sandal" style) for my last trip to Europe as a secondary pair to my official walking shoes. However the Keens were so comfortable and durable that I ended up wearing them the whole time. I had bought them at an REI store, so I figured that I'd look for another Keen shoe to purchase for working around my home. As I said in my post above, my criteria is that the shoes need to cover my feet, slip on and off easily, have a thick enough sole to hold up to things like digging with a shovel while preventing anything from poking through the sole, and just generally be well made, comfortable and flexible. So then I found the Keen "Summer Golden Slip-On" shoes and have not looked back. They are perfect! I also really enjoy being barefoot, though it isn't always the best idea due to bothersome ouchies like grass burrs. However a friend of mine just purchased some shoes that were created to replicate the "barefoot experience". He's a physical therapist and loves the feel, the look and the whole barefoot rationale for these shoes called VivoBarefoot. They come in different styles for Men, Women and Children. He had purchased a style called "RA" and they looked attractive, beautifully well made and invitingly comfortable. I have trouble motivating FDH to parent A__ too... And like you, I think that FDH is just totally unaware of his son. If I'm not home, FDH will have A__ all darn day without feeding him a proper meal. It's easier for him to let A__ play on the computer all day than to think up stuff to do with him. But I just do things my way, and he goes along with it because he realizes that he's sort of a slacker if left to his own devices. For example, right now, FDH wants to watch Trailer Park Boys, and A__ is right here in the room, so I pointed out that there is too much swearing in that show for a 9yo. He changed it back to the ball game. FDH would probably do the same thing with Meet the Teacher night as your DH did... He's the king of "Oh, and we're supposed to be at this place at 6:30" when supper is already on the stove and it drives me nuts. I think it's inconsiderate of him to spring last minute plans on me... But I think it's a Mars/Venus thing: I plan ahead, while he ignores my planning ahead - He makes last minute plans, while I get mad about it. I've found that most men are like that (with some exceptions of course) For things like chewing with his mouth open, it's quite probable that DH doesn't notice. A__ can have his face LITERALLY in his food and be poking it into his mouth with his fingers and FDH looks confused when I remind A__ of his table manners. When I was a kid and I chewed with me mouth open, it was always my mom or my older sister who reminded me to close it - I don't recall my dad or brothers ever reminding me. Maybe that's a Mars/Venus thing too? It puts you in a hard spot though. Either you say "DH, your son is chewing with his mouth open" or you remind SS of his table manners yourself. Option one makes it seem like you're purposefully avoiding interaction with SS and he'll probably react poorly to that. Option two is that you're doing the parenting for DH, which you seem tired of. I guess for me, it comes down to this: If I do the crappy stuff like wiping dirty handprints off the wall and telling A__ to use table manners, FDH gets much less frustrated with A__ and they have a better relationship. The difference between our situations is that A__ has improved from where he was last year (which is a lot like where your SS is now) while your SS is still in a rough patch. I know you're still frustrated and SS is still misbehaving, but it sounded like he was progressing a little... Is he still?

I have small wide feet. Very difficult getting shoes. Years ago, for work, my go to was Naturalizer because they offered wide. When I stopped working and had my daughters, I was in Nike or New balance sneakers. My sneakers now are Nike. I had to order and send back so many pairs as the stores didn't carry wide. Now it's crocs (so many cute ones now a days), Bernardo flip flops, Easy Spirit, a Reiker loafer I bought years ago. (I had the sense to stockpile two extras and now I'm on the last pair. I have some Aerosole, but from years ago. Nothing seems to fit there. Added woe. The Easy Spirit store closed. Macy's bought Easy Spirit so they might begin to show more, but Macy's isn't really convenient for me either. I have one pair of Ecco shoes, but they aren't really comfortable. I wear the Ecco sandals all summer for taking long walks.

Dresses that look good with flat shoes

Glad to hear so many others wear flats-- whether because they like them or they have to. Someone asked up above if my shoes need to be flat flat-- they don't.. but the most important thing is that my foot feels secure.. and that it IS secure. Especially for this event where there will be a lonnnng hike in uneven grass to the event location (it's across a long field and up a hill). almost all the dresses I current have that are dressy enough have either ruffles or a flounce like this. Trust me, I've tried them-- flats do NOT look great with this style. I have a number of them because they balance out my wide shoulders and broad hips and I think look very flattering.. but alas, they just don't work with the shoes I am stuck with. I did receive the first dress I ordered above and while I very much dislike the dress (the pattern and the quality), the dress actually does look good with flats.. so the good news is I now I have a style to look for. JT.. that's adorable but the skirt is too full for my ample bottom and hips. Thanks for looking for me!

Skechers are all I can wear. I buy wide or even extra wide. For work, I use the

Skechers work shoes with slip-resistant soles. it looks like a black net covering. Very comfortable. work shoes

I always say I have duck feet. They are as wide as they are long. I have a pair of shoes and I don't remember where I got them. I had them a long time before I wore them. I know I didn't buy them new...yard sale or thrift or maybe someone gave them to me. Once I started wearing them, they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. They are canvas, like sneakers but don't lace up. But they do have some crisp cross laces on them...for looks, I guess. I have literally worn holes in the top side. The bottoms are good...haven't come loose like cheap sneakers. They are Easy Spirit. I have bought 2 pairs since, but haven't found any exactly like them. They are comfortable but not as much as my first pair. They look like heck but I am going to take them to the store and see if they have some more similar.

I have wide feet in the front but normal width in the back. So some wides are too loose. Add short toes so I have trouble getting the arch of the insole in the right spot. Mostly I wear boots in the winter. Not fashion boots but western or motorcycle boots. Every boot I own has Ariat insoles. I also like Bear Paw (Uggs knock-offs) boots for when it's cold but not wet. In the warm weather it's flip flops or sport sandals. My shoe size is a 7 or 7.5 depending on the brand. Don't even get me started on having skate boots made when I used to skate.

My DH has wide feet and one of my son's has very large feet. I have had success purchasing from shoes.com.

I've mentioned these before...Lem Walkers. I have a wide toe box and these shoes are as close as I've ever gotten to walking barefoot. Love them.

I bought several pairs of the Wide and all are comfortable. But the Skecher Mule Sneaker is going to be my in-the-house fave, because they were the most comfortable. It's hard to see how something could be made to be both a mule and a sneaker, but works. I plan to try on one of those Lems in the future thank you Annie.

Annie, I wish that company sold sandals. They look great but my feet are often too hot for regular shoes.
