Okay, so maybe I don't know everything yet...
Comments (45)Okay, I'll leave it be and hope for the best. The pine nuggets seemed perfect, with some pieces being dime sized at the largest and some being really fine mulchy stuff. I'll see if I can get a picture when I go down to my mother's house this weekend, I don't remember the brand name. Was a massive bag for pretty reasonable though, I've used that stuff for nearly ALL of my plants this last repotting season. While most are houseplants, for edibles I planted an olive and a cherry tree in soil amended with it. Guess I'll just see what happens over the winter!...See MoreSo Frustrated---Don't know where to go next!
Comments (28)No offense to AZ Wildcats, but Jock is way beyond starting small at this point! He is well into this process and has probably hit the limit. Jock, I think I was where you are now, back in 2005 when I tried to hire a designer or color consultant to work with. I knew an awful lot about what I liked, but I felt I needed the extra edge from a professional to get me the last few yards to the goal. As for finding someone to work with who has compatible style...you need to find someone who does not insert any of their own style into your process. That should be one of your first questions when interviewing people. Make sure you are not getting a look or a package or (heaven forbid) a formula. You need someone to help you find your home's own best design potential....a facilitator. I'm not sure where you live, but I would start with the IACC-NA....See MoreStill Don't Know What To Do About This Kitchen...
Comments (27)Lucky you! You have a huge wonderful space to work with, sometimes a huge space can be challenging. Wood floors look great. The cabinet color isn't bad but if you like light cabinets maybe a professional painter can help you determine if they will take paint well. Add veneers or false doors to sides if necessary. Like the idea of new countertops. Couple of suggestions/observations: Don't like the idea of the cooktop on the island: unsafe and venting issues. I like your idea of putting a wood hood in, and I would move the refrigerator, if you can, to where the wall ovens are now. Move the wall oven down, to the right of where it is now. The refrigerator creates a wall where it is now. If you move it it will open up the kitchen. Can one of those pantrys be moved somewhere else? You can move the cooktop down to the left of where it is now and put a hood above it. You will have to add a cabinet for the new cooktop in the center, but that can be a different stain or color. Your issue there will be venting it out. You can combine colors in the kitchen where your going to put your cook top and hood. You will get that "Tuscan look" Adding a new cabinet for the cooktop you could pull it forward if you have the room and add decorative posts. Your island could be bigger, or maybe add another with a space in between? Can you add a bar sink to the island? I would also do some type of arch above your window in a different color?. Are the soffits above necessary or decorative? I'm assuming they house plumbing stack or venting? Put glass inserts in the cabinets on both sides of the sink....See MoreLove my kitchen designer but don't like her cabinet lines: what to do?
Comments (12)Well, legally you cannot take those plans to anyone else. They belong to her and her company. Pay the 3-5K design commission that she would have earned, to actually own them, and you can take them elsewhere. Otherwise, you start over completely with someone else, somewhere else. With none of her copyrighted ideas. And this is why people need to work with an independent kitchen designer. And buy just design. If they sell cabinets, that’s fine. But if they don’t work as design only, without selling you cabinets, you’re wasting your time. Or, you share the cabinet lines that you’re so afraid of mentioning here, and get some actual input about moving forward with them. Then you don’t need to break up....See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
