What I love and don't love about my kitchen
Comments (7)I think my faucet is the issue. I thought picking a faucet was the hardest thing because they weren't hooked up and who knew how they would perform? I worried a lot about reach since that was a problem with my old faucet/sink. That is NOT an issue with this faucet and sink. My old sink/faucet also sometimes splashed out the front and this one does not. The back is a better splash problem to have since it is all tile and countertop so I DID improve things. A faucet isn't a terrible issue to have. They are fairly easily replaced and they aren't that expensive, compared to all else....See MoreMy shelves don't line up with the mullions in my glass cabinets.
Comments (10)You're probably not going to want to hear this, but my mullions and shelves not lining up drove me so crazy that I ended up replacing the mullioned glass doors with clear ones. The shelves will actually never line up with the mullions, because if you get them to line up, say, viewing them straight on, when you view them from an angle, they then won't line up from that viewpoint. I think it's a matter of people's personalities, because this issue would not bother some people, and does bother others. The good news is that I had FOUR mullioned glass doors that I replaced with clear ones, and it wasn't actually much of a big deal. The big expense in cabinetry is the boxes, not the doors. What I did was order 4 new doors without glass from my cabinet company, which surprisingly wasn't too expensive. Then I brought the glass-less doors to a local neighborhood glass/mirror shop where they measured them for the glass. I did end up choosing to bevel the clear glass edges. The bevelling adds a high-end luxury look - it ought to since it almost doubled the cost of the glass. But after having seen the bevelled clear glass, I know I wouldn't have been happy with the plain clear glass. When the glass was ready, about 10 days later, the glass store installed the glass onto the doors for me, and I brought them home and hung them myself. It was really easy, and I am not at all handy. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but that's how much the not-lining-up issue bugged me. And now, every day I can look at my clear glass cabinets with their lovely bevelled edges, and the shelves going cleanly horizontally, and enjoy the view. Sorry if this message is a downer for you, but thought I'd relay my experience....See MoreOH NO...what did I do... don't look if you don't like spiders
Comments (17)For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned....See MoreI don't like my new kitchen floors and the transition to family room
Comments (88)I totally feel your pain! Remodels aren't cheap and it's not easy for everyone to picture what something will look like before its done. I had a similar situation - I just didn't feel that I could afford to redo the tile in the entire house - so I only did part of it. Huge mistake. I "solved" the problem with carpet squares. You can buy just what you need, get pretty creative and install them yourself. I'm sure there are many companies, I used Flor. I recommend getting samples - as it's impossible to accurately assess color from the computer monitor. (Samples are free during promotions and sales are frequent.) I would also suggest that moving the sofa to face away from the kitchen will not only cover up some of the transition, but also define the space in a way to enhance the separation of the rooms....See Moredarbuka
