How do you like your new cast iron drain pipes?
Comments (3)You need to be more specific about what drain pipes are being replaced. Most folks don't dig up/demo the slab just to install new under-slab drain pipes unless they are filled with roots and dirt. If you are replacing the small drain pipes connected to the sinks and other fixtures, then PVC is a much better choice. Horizontal runs of small diameter (2", etc.) iron pipe builds up crud in the bottom and gets very rough, and then eventually rusts through because the iron pipe is often almost empty, wet and exposed to air. PVC tolerates that exposure much better. If you want really durable PVC you could specify stronger schedule 80 pipe, but I have never seen that used for DWV. The main soil stack may also be iron pipe, but usually a thinner iron pipe to keep down the weight. This means it sometimes rusts through faster, and its always a PIA to run because of the weight. For water supply lines in the house I would recommend using PEX for the new lines. It is cheaper than copper, and overall very easy to work with, which reduces the installation cost. Comments (7)I've had an 11" MacBook Air for five years. DH decided he wanted to upgrade from his iPad to my Mac (when we travel blogging on the iPad is a challenge). I like the MacBook so much that I decided to replace the 11" with a 12" ( the 11" is no longer available). The 12" weighs slightly less than the 11" and has retina display. The overall size is thinner and perhaps a little smaller (the screen, however, is the same size, I believe). We're partial to the smaller ones because they easily fit into our luggage and also work well for us at home. We were PC users and reluctant to switch to Apple but our kids convinced us and, hate to say it, but they were right. Fewer problems and user friendly. Comments (46)I should have photographed all the pages. A version of Ricky's was listed remember called something '...in a Hat'. Finishing the toasted cut-out piece on top to serve. I really like all the South American egg scrambles. This book was discussed at work so we all shared our favorites. A Brazilian and a Venezuelan I discovered like the same 'variegated'. Similar to the country style pic above. (my Brazilian friend calls them variegated). Makes sense. Pan medium, melt a small pat of butter. Crack in pan two eggs, turn down heat to low. Cook low and slow until whites solidify, no crispy edges. Yolk still tender runny. Add tbsp fresh salsa, chopped avocado...or any handy veg, spinach, etc., a bit of crumbled queso or feta. Stir folding so the egg white and yolk yellow are not a fast scramble...variegated. Even just a simple quick egg I prefer this way. A bit of dill is nice. Comments (22)I don't particularly care for banana bread or muffins. But here's a tip for those who want to make it, and the bananas aren't quite "there" yet. Too ripe to eat, but not ripe enough for baking. 1. Pre-heat your oven to 300 degree F. 2. Line a baking sheet with some parchment paper. 3. Place as many bananas as you need on their sides. 4. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, your bananas’ skin should be dark and shiny. They might look a little unappetizing to eat on their own, but the black skin means they’re perfectly ripe for baking. 5. Let the bananas cool for about 30 minutes. 6.
