Pot lights and fans are not good friends a lot of times the fans create a strobe effect from the lights

Thank you Patricia. I was thinking the same thing which is why I placed the lights so close to the walls. I don't anticipate using the lights very often, and if so, probably dimmed way down, as this is an unheated room. It's basically a patio (concrete slab on grade) with a roof and un-insulated walls with single pane triple-track windows and an old storm door leading to the backyard. It's similar to a screened-in porch, so I think it will mostly be used during daylight hours as an extension of the backyard. It will not be used at all in the wintertime. The original light was a single 60 watt lightbulb inside a flush mount fixture. I was planning on replacing that with 2 ceiling fans with light kits, but the person who was previously working on our house purchased these recessed lights and threw away the packaging so now I am looking for a way to use them instead of putting them in a box and storing them. After thinking about my options, I thought that the light kits on the ceiling fans might be too bulky and the recessed lights combined with 2 fans (sans light kits) might be less visually obtrusive. The ceiling is not overly high; 8'8" on the high end and sloping down towards the windows. I believe that the recessed lights provide a 110 degree angle beam, so I was wondering if the fans would interfere with the lights if I placed them far enough away. If I don't use the lights that I have on hand, then I will need to figure out another way to get at least one light into this room.

as long as the blades do not overlap the pot light you should be fine.

I did a few more renderings (see below) and it looks like the cone of illumination (110 degrees) does not interfere with the fan blades but I'm not sure how to know for sure. Is there a mathematical calculation that I can use? And does anybody have any feedback on the placement of these recessed lights? I know they will be very bright so they will be on a dimmer, but at this time I'm leaning toward using 6 lights to get even illumination in the room. The 4 corner lights are not equidistant from the walls. This is most noticeable on the 2 close-ups of the corners because the cones do not fall on the 2 walls evenly. I did this because I was trying to line them up with the windows on the long wall, yet keep them as close to the long walls, and as far away from the ceiling fans as possible. I think I'm liking this plan. Any thoughts? An alternative would be using only 3 lights against the back wall (the long wall without windows.)

That looks great. I might also consider a light on your fans so you can use those for more ambient lighting, and more complete lighting when everything is lit. Question, what size fans where you thinking? I dont think you need more than 52"

Thanks RL. The fans that I selected are 52". I'm a little worried that they might be too big because the room is only 111" wide. But I like the style so I'm just going to go for it. Here is the exact fan that I purchased, and I'll be using them with the 4" downrod to accommodate the sloped ceiling which isn't very tall on the high end.

Yes I agree with you I really think you could do 44 inch fans in there. How tall is the ceiling???
